Three monthly Post ablation for A Tach appointment with EP.

Met up with my man on Monday morning after 3 30 am alarm, long drive to station long train journey and then cab across London to RBHT. Ten minute chat and repeat in opposite direction.

Lots of ultra short episodes (less than 5 mins usually) experienced but reducing as time goes on. Three or four caught on 48 hour Holter a month ago but he was not concerned. We agreed that recovery is very often far more than the three months "blanking period" as we here already know. No further sign of junctional conductivuty problems so pace maker off the table now. Agreed re-visit in six months but "Patient Portal" e mail from hospital with new appointment is August 2020 so their computer can't count. " E mail me if you have any problems --- as I know full well you will". LOL

On a very positive note we've just made the Chestnut stuffing for Christmas and once I've been out to get some fresh parsley and thyme it is the turn of the lemon parsley and thyme stuffing. Recipes are available by PM.

Bob

PS at least it isn't raining here as it's tank emptying time. Good to get that done before Christmas.

Good stuff BobD, are you happy with progress so far?

A bit dissapointed to be honest as my episodes before were so few and far between but realistic about recovery and pretty confident all will settle before long . I did write the recovery fact sheet of course so should understand all this but its not so easy when it is you!!. lol 😁

Always so much more difficult to heed advice than to give it.

I don’t envy your long journey each time.

Hey Bob,

I hope it will settle in a good period of time for you.

I’m almost 6 months post hybrid ablation from my AT and still not fully recovered. My cardiologist told me that we only can be sure after a year post ablation. They didn’t told me that in the beginning, but I guess it is more realistic since your heart has to adapt to the new situation, they did change our heart.

We will keep our fingers crossed 🤞.

“My man” is a 1960’s expression I remember from back in the day. 😂It’s the day before Thanksgiving here in Washington, DC. Traffic is as crowded as our Thanksgiving plates will be tomorrow. Folks grab last minute items off of the holiday packed grocery shelves. Wish there was a box of “Giving Thanks” they could grab as I think some forget to bring that to the feast. To declare the feast a success, hosts certainly steer any political discussions far away from the menu.

Bob, August 2020, eh? And they say technology will take over the world. We might be in for a ride.

Thank you for the update Bob and for keeping positive by giving the Christmas stuffing the priority it deserves!

Glad to hear you’re doing okay Bob. You do have such a long journey to see your specialist. I’m lucky - my EP’s office and my local hospital is a 10 minute drive away.

Back when I started my journey there was nobody in our area who did ablations so was referred to London and since I get on so well with my EP decided it was worth staying with him. Maybe one day we can use Skype.

Am suppressing a giggle here, re Skype.....as you ,beloved & I share a VERY talented EP . I owe him so much gratitude for sorting beloved out , trouble is, I guess he’s a victim of his own success, he was ahead of his time when we 1st saw him in ‘98

Crikey, sounds like a case for technology and a quick skype call

Glad you are doing OK.

in reply to

ha, just read your post above. Skype would have been so much easier all round if no physical exam required

Stop moaning, you’re never satisfied, we all know what you would say to anyone else who came up with a similar post 😂🤪😳😉

Now, what sort of tank of tank are we talking about, I guess it’s the one you need to wash your hands before mixing the stuffing 😂

All sounds good for the New Year......🤞🤞🤞

Fragrant to say the least FJ. All done now for another two years.

I was being honest about my situation to show I am only human contrary to popular belief.#

Well done on the epic round trip and glad things are more or less settling down for you.

Try not to be too disappointed I'm sure things will pan out for the better . You'd have been far worse off without the proceedure I'm sure.

Keep up the good work now xx

Morning Bob , glad you are doing ok ish, what is it with EPs they do their job but when you go to see them for review , it’s always very quick in and out ! They don’t seem to want to discuss the outcome unless it’s good ! Give it time is what mine said to me , it could be a year or two ! Put it down to anxiety issues. I had an ablation for avrnt svt , he discovered I had abit of atrial tachycardia firing off as well , but didn’t want to treat that at the time ! Said it was too much in one go . Six months now and I get short bursts of that which is not very pleasant, makes me feel yuk ! Spoke to him about that , but he dismissed it and said wasn’t serious ! Not had svt episode though so that’s a blessing ! Will just have to stay calm and use bisoprolol as pip . I’m a retired dentist and when I was working I was fine , all this on retirement! Hey ho !

Glad things are going relatively well Bob and you can concentrate on the important things in life now. I’m also lucky with a relatively short journey from outer to Central London to see my Barts EP. He even does a clinics at my local hospital once a month to make it even easier. I hope things continue to improve and you enjoy the festive season.

Sorry to ask but curious. What's RBHT stand for?

Royal Bromptom Hospital Trust.

Thanks - I'm waiting for cardio version in 6-8 weeks time since being diagnosed with permanent AF since July 19. Think St Barts may be the place!

Richard Schilling at Barts is very good if you get him and many of his students have gone on to other places as succesful EPs . He is also London AF Centre.

Oh dear. I live in rural Qld Australia and my trips to Brisbane are 3hrs to and another 3hrs back I have asked cardiologist about phone sessions but no. Its an incredibly long day when you are in your 70s. A hookup in gps office with cardiologist would be wonderful.

I do wish hospital computers would learn to count, or at least that staff could be a little more honest about waiting times. My three month follow up post cardioversion in October is in March. A penalty, I suppose, of having a popular consultant but they’re popular for a reason and I wouldn’t want to change mine.

We are back in Devon in April next year to celebrate our 20th Wedding anniversary. Perhaps we can meet up again for a coffee?
