AF support, thanks and coming off bisoprolol

For 3 years I have been diagnosed with PAF.

The preceding 4 years I had symptoms, didn't get much sleep and felt unusually nervous.

I have had a range of symptoms -

Fluttering, banging heart, fizzing legs. Inability to sleep on my left side. And a range of consultations and Investigations

I have had side effects from my medication (bisoprolol)

Also had to find lifestyle changes (no caffeine, no alcohol, exercise etc)

All the way through this process, this forum has provided me with remote help and support. I have never contacted you, but by reading through past posts I have known

1) I am not alone in my symptoms

2) how to get the best from my consultant

3) how to help myself

4) how to take my medication and what to expect.

I want firstly to say a big thank you on behalf of people who just read posts and never post themselves. Without your posts I would have been lost confused and very ill.

I am now moving on to seeing if I can come off my medication. I have discussed it with my gp and read your experiences. I will do this after a house move and divorce (due to the stress levels) and will post my experience to help others.

Thank your all so much.

What a lovely post, thank you. This forum helped me so much in the early days that it is good to offer something in return. On first diagnosis it can be so overwhelming that knowing others are also experiencing similar is so reassuring.

You are going through a stressful time - divorce and moving house so please pay special attention to your wellbeing and hopefully your heart will stay calm.

Best wishes CD

If it had not been for all the advice and knowledge this site has given me regarding symptons medication and support I think I would still be phoning 999 every time I started an episode and then being carted off to A & E. I learnt not to panic, to relax with the breathing exercises, how to manage medication and generally lots of other tips. The warmth and sympathy of other people who know just how you are feeling has been one of the main benefits. So now 6 years into my AF journey I always turn to here for support and knowledge. Thank you everyone and i hope I have contributed to the site and passed on help as well 🌹

I don’t have anything to say about your AF but wanted to wish you well at this time of great change. You are facing two of the most stressful things in life! I do hope ,once things have settled down that you find life opens up for you and that you are very happy.

I have found this site wonderfully helpful too . Hope we will hear more from you

I couldn't agree more - the information from other sufferers on their AF journey's has meant more to me than all the medical leaflets and medical advice that has been available during my 'illness'. It makes you feel less of a freak and gives you hope that you can get yourself through to a place where your life is not ruled by your misbehaving heart. It also combats a lot of the medical advice which denies that a lot of your symptoms are related to the AFib or to the various treatments for it.

Thanks to everyone out there who contributes, Like Wendyao I am starting to contribute in the hope it will assist others.

Hope you will feel a lot better without bisoprolol, I know I did. Changed to verapamil and my symptoms improved instantly. I know bisoprolol works for many people, but for me it caused my quality of life to be so bad I was seriously thinking about giving up my work. Good luck to you. David.
