I know what it feels like when the black cloud of poor health appears in your life, it's a shock, it's worrying and it makes you think about the chances of overcoming the problem and returning to normal life.
This time last year my heart was doing a merry dance most weeks, I was suffering from paroxysmal AF and it was getting worse fast. I was having time off work and I was in a bad place. Then in September last year I had a Cryoablation and fast forward to today and I feel great.
I spent this morning riding around Wales on my motorbike and I feel blessed and thankful for having a second chance. I know this condition is a mongrel and can pop up again, but this post is for those of you who are experiencing the bad days I just want you to hang on in there and seek out the appropriate treatment, life can be good again. God bless you all and I hope you had a good bank holiday weekend.

Alwaya good to see how some people pick themselves up and have a successful return to "normal " life although for me normal is not a road burning monster in green. Had a blast in my Orange BMW yesterday though but thwarted by grockles in motor homes and old aunties in Micras or Aygos. SW has been full these last few days .!
I have my pen at the ready to sign your petition. We ventured out to the beach for a walk on Friday - wall to wall people, children and the occasional dog (usually inhabited by dogs, horses and the occasional human which is how we like it!). We soon retreated and am only today venturing out again.
The trick is get out on the road about 7am on a weekend or bank holiday and you have about 3 hours to party before the roads get busy .... Drive safe Bob 👍
Great picture. So glad you are doing great. I have my ablation next Tuesday. Second one and I know this one will do the trick!!! We are a special group of people sharing our stories. Let’s hope we all become AFIB free forever!! Happy spring.
I second all you have said, after getting out on Easter Saturday doing something I love I can relate totally. Even the OH said "You can tell your mood has changed" yesterday, she didn't mean it in a bad way but it did surprise me a little bit that my black cloud and feeling trapped had been more prevalent than i'd perhaps realised.
Ah yes, I know it - so beautiful! Used to have walking holidays for many years in North Wales, staying in a beautiful barn conversion at the base of Cadair Idris near Dolgellau.
So pleased for you enjoy life to the full now you have regained your equilibrium. Good on yer for grabbing life with both hands, enjoy and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for asking, Dave. AFIB wise, sadly still having episodes but they are less often, milder but longer in duration... Will go back for completion of what was started but waiting, if possible, until after my sons wedding in August. Been a rough couple of months with my Mom having to move to a skilled nursing facility and all that surrounds that sort of emotional and physical move. The stress has been overwhelming which, I am sure, is not helping the AFIB! Some days I feel confident and competent and others I feel more the a wrung out dishrag! Good news, I am strong and will weather this storm looking toward the blue skies and sunshine ahead.
Hello Dave. What an inspiring post I have just read from you. It has made me feel better, having woken this morning feeling very low and tired. I won’t be going out on a motorbike or even a walk, just relaxing and realising how lucky I am! My David was very interested in your bike. He enlarged the photo and examined it carefully!! I was just recently officially diagnosed and yet to have a second opinion but I’m only 23 years old and I was diagnosed with paroxysmal Afib as well and right now I feel like I’m spiraling down into a deep depression. I feel like every treatment option is terrible and will leave me jobless and uninsured here in the U.S.
Hi there, I'm 54 and I had this condition from 28 years old, medication worked until last year so I opted for ablation which seems to have worked 100% for now.
I know what you mean about being worried but at 23 you can get well and have a long healthy life ahead of you.
Eat healthy, don't touch alcohol and seek out a good EP to address your condition. Don't let this condition get the better of you mentally as anxiety goes hand in hand with AF.
You are a fire fighter so now's the time to fight for yourself, you will look back in a couple of years and be glad you did.
Life is a rollercoaster, some ups and some downs, you've just got to do your best on the downs and keep your chin up. Take care and get that plan to good health sorted fast so you can and get on with your life 👍
Thank you sir. Seeing how you lived with this since around my age, do you think it’s a condition I can work in the fire service with? Obviously our hearts are different and mine might be more progressive and less responsive to drugs than your case.
It would be a lot easier for you if you seek the right treatment from a good EP, you hit the nail on the head when you said we are all different, this condition is a real mongrel and one person's journey is only a guideline for you. One thing for sure though, if you let the condition progress without intervention (which probably means ablation) it will restrict your life. The good news is these days they can cure the problem especially when there are no other health problems to deal with and you are otherwise fit and young too, everything is in your favour 👍
Are you on lifetime anticoagulants? I was wondering if the watchman device is a reality for me, the blood thinners are one of the biggest roadblocks for me
