Blood test shows I have infection somewhere Ruled out arthritis but doctor thinks it could be polymyalgia rheumatics So I'm on steroids for a week then return to see him He will make appointment for me to visit rheumatilogy to get it confirmed More pills Could do with it all just going away Mind you I have got a new mattress on its way 😁

Not a thing Think it could be because I'm off again Will have to take sick note in and ask about 2 days holidays I have next week Was told last time I would have them cancelled with being off but I there won't be time to use them up before this year's start

Hi vonnie just back from hospital not having any treatment just staying on bisoprosol and they told me to stop taking apixaban until I’m 65 ???

Two more weeks on steroids Back to work next week If 12 hour shifts too much go back see about another sick note Hopefully I can stop taking tabs in two weeks as I feel so much better now He did say condition may reoccur at some time and may send me for bone density scan

Vonnie so sorry you are not 100% again, I am glad I am retired but I did work till I was 69 years old, Got so tired of young would - be bosses looking at me and talking to me as if I was something off the bottom of their shoe. My daughter has Raynauds ,numbness and pain in her wrist, leg everywhere ,dole insisting she fit for work but Not!! Hospital now testing for Lupus???. She' s sixty and like yourself prob has more qualifications than the lot of them put together sadly she keeps dropping things. To be honest I'm now not bothered really about work It hasn't been the same since I stood down from senior and went part time Friend who I went out with a lot no longer speaks much I feel I have been put on back burner I hope your daughter gets sorted real soon

Sorry something elase has popped up to aggravate you. Hope you can get stetoids taken before 2pm if possible 6pm at the latest as they can disturb sleep! Depends on dose of course. Good news id it is Polyarthralgia rheumatica they work very well.
Steroids took at 6.30 this morning I don't sleep much any way due to all the aches I have Go back to see my doctor in a week Fingers crossed the tabs have helped

You say your doctor thinks you have polymialgia rheumatic. My wife has it at the moment (she also had it several years ago). The doctor prescribed steroids both times and they work in hours. The first doctor described them as a miracle drug, AND THEY ARE. If it is polymialgia then the steroids will work very quickly, in my wife's case in hours. If it is rheumatoid arthritis, they will not work. With polymialgia, the stiffness and pain is usually worse in the morning and gets slightly easier towards the end of the day. As my wife currently has it and has had it before, I have researched it on Google and it follows the pattern as above. Hope this helps and the pain goes away.

Hi do you know how polymialgia differs from fibromialgia? My partner has fibromialgia and it's permanent but it comes and goes. She gets flu symptoms, extreme hot and cold, aches and pains and feels exhausted.

Fibromyalgia tends to be a bit of a catch all diagnosis
when doctors do not really know the cause of the symptoms. Some people who have been diagnosed with fibro are actually suffering from fluoroquinolone toxicity ie they have been poisoned by a class of antibiotics which act in the body like chemo drugs giving a delayed reaction that neither the patient nor the doctor ever connect to the drug. Women are far more likely to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia than men and women are more likely to have been "floxed" due to Ciprofloxacin being a very popular treatment for UTI before being "unrecommended". I think anybody diagnosed with fibromyalgia should insist on trawling through their medical records to see if in the past they have been prescribed a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. There is no medical treatment for fluoroquinolone toxicity but there are alternative treatments which help some people but knowledge is key- never ever take this class of drugs again because once you have had a reaction any subsequent exposure will cause a worse reaction.

A: I can certainly understand the confusion between fibromyalgia and polymyalgia; the names and, to an extent, the symptoms of both conditions are similar.
The word myalgia means pain within the muscles. Both fibromyalgia and polymyalgia are characterized by muscle pain, but many other aspects of the two conditions differ.
Polymyalgia, or polymyalgia rheumatica, is an inflammatory disease of muscle. The cause is uncertain but it is believed to be an autoimmune disease in which the body’s own immune system attacks the connective tissues. The primary symptoms are severe stiffness and pain in the muscles of the neck, shoulder and hip areas. People with this condition also may have flulike symptoms, including fever, weakness and weight loss, and approximately 15 percent develop a potentially dangerous condition called giant cell arteritis – an inflammation of the arteries that supply the head.
Fibromyalgia is not an inflammatory condition. It is caused by abnormal sensory processing in the central nervous system. People with fibromyalgia may be extremely sensitive to pain and other unpleasant sensations. To be diagnosed with fibromyalgia, one must experience pain on both sides of the body and in both the upper and lower half of the body. They are also typically tender points throughout their body. Other common symptoms of fibromyalgia include fatigue, difficulty sleeping and concentrating, irritable bowel syndrome and headaches.
Both fibromyalgia and polymyalgia are more common in women than men. Fibromyalgia can occur at any age, but polymyalgia rarely occurs before age 50. The average age of onset is 70. And whereas fibromyalgia is chronic, often lasting a lifetime, polymyalgia usually resolves itself within two years.
Treatment differs, too. Fibromyalgia is treated with exercise, relaxation techniques, analgesic medications and antidepressants to relieve pain and promote sleep. Treatment for polymyalgia is targeted at relieving inflammation. For some people, daily doses of NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), are sufficient, but more often corticosteroids, such as prednisone, are required to control inflammation.
Although your polymyalgia will eventually go away completely, it’s important that you be mindful – both now and after your disease resolves – of symptoms such as headaches and blurred vision, which could mean giant cell arteritis. If you develop arteritis, high doses of corticosteroids may be necessary to control the condition and prevent vision loss.

Not sure of the answer to that question as I have only looked up Polymialgia, but as I said, Polymialgia is worse in the morning and all the muscles seem to lock up, making it awkward to get out of bed. My wife does not get flu type symptoms either, but she has to be on steroids for at least 10 months to 2 years. She had it before in 2010 but only had a ten day course of steroids then which worked within hours. Sorry I can't help you anymore. I would not like to give you duff information.

Hi Started tabs this morning Bloods ruled out arthritis Im bad in a morning eases during day a little but ache during the night At first I couldn't even roll over in bed Silly me have just worked my way through it doing 12 hour shifts With dementia.Knew i needed to see go when I struggled to bend or get out of bath Did wife go to hospital with hers and how is she now

I hope the new mattress helps ... I've got 2" of memory foam on my mattress and it's helped so much with my aches and pains. Now I hate sleeping in any bed that's not my own!
Good you've got a diagnosis, hopefully the steroids will work. Just sorry you're having so much trouble with your employers, I bet you wish you could tell them where to go

To be honest I haven't been great. The cyst on my back is still painful and swollen even after a course of antibiotics, and I've had pain just under the skin around my waist which could be shingles, and niggling pain in the abdomen. If I went to the doctor I'd need to take a list and they hate that! Just hoping time will heal!

He thinks they should've removed the cyst years ago, but now they're saying I'd need a general anaesthetic and have to stop Apixaban for 5 days!! before the op. I'm going to wait and see if it goes on its own.
Hubby's given me the once over and can't feel any lumps or bumps in my tummy, and there's nothing to see, so if it's shingles it's a rare sort!
He's being very patient and kind which helps Soooo much.

If its polymyalgia you will be on steroids for at least 2 years and then wean off slowly. My husband had it three years ago and is reducing down now. however you have to be very careful as he has days and weeks when the dose has to increase again as it flairs up all over again. Not good but slowly getting there? Just one question Did you by any chance have Sarcoidosis in your earlier years? I wonder if its associated as Hubby did.

More luck than judgement, nothing helped he was in so much pain and it was going to be 12 weeks before we saw a consultant. He was in a lot of pain on lots of pain killers which were making him hallucinate. Our Gp Thought it might be polymyalgia and tried the steroids and hey presto they helped so the the doctor said thats what it must be. However he now takes Levo for Thyroid, meds for AF and has a very slow heartbeat. Dont know if it was the steroids that did this or the polymyalgia. Sarcoidosis also wrecks your Lungs and heart muscles so could of been that. He is 65 and I constantly worry about him
I was fine till I was diagnosed PAF last year I struggled doing 12 hour shifts for over 4weeks with pains in legs arms neck and stiffness In the end I went docs and blood tests showed infection It's a very painful thing I'm in serious trouble now at work with being off two weeks as I have already had written warning and I as not suppose to have any sickness before August
So does husband go to clinic at hospital for his condition or just his gp.Im 63 now and have no idea what happens next with this rheumatica thing
He never got to the hospital the GP looked after him. He could hardly walk some days and if he did not push himself he would of been disabled now I am sure of it.
Surely work cannot sack you for being sick.
Well guess I will soon find out I'm back in on Wednesday but I think it be someone from head office this time
