I cant believe it! Just when things seemed to be going well I have lost part of my back tooth. Its a sizeable chunk and from a tooth thats big and been filled for over 30 years. I am crossing fingers like mad that it can be filled when I go to the dentist tomorrow but if not, I gather an extraction will be a big problem with bleeding.
Can anyone give me the benefit of their experience at the dentist?
Your dentist will probably suggest putting a cap on the tooth, they rarely take teeth out these days unless there's an infection in the root. There doesn't have to be a lot of the tooth left for them to do this.

I had a tooth extracted whilst taking Rivaroxaban. I was told to take my medication as normal, but as the appointment was in the morning, I just delayed the Rivaroxaban until lunch time. The dentist said that he would stitch the wound to help stop the bleeding, but after the extraction he said it wasn’t necessary. I had to bite on a wad of gauze all the way home and it was still bleeding when I got home. My advice would be to ask for stitches. Good luck with whatever you decide.
There is a group of anticoagulants yours being one. I take Dabigatran which works in a similar way. Needing an extraction last year I spoke to my cardiac consultant and he suggested stopping the drug for 48 hours before the procedure. He e-mailed me to that effect in order to reassure my dentist. I bled for a while (inevitable) but not too bad. I have another extraction next week so will follow the same procedure. So my advice is to contact your consultant and see if you get the same advice.

Hi. I've had extractions and major fillings / root canals etc at the dentist while on warfarin with an INR of 4.5!!!!!!!
I had a similar experience a couple of months ago. A crown came off and not enough of the tooth left to save. It was extracted without me altering my daily dose of Riveroxaban. No pain afterwards and no problem with bleeding.

I'm on 20mg. I take the tablet between 8.00 and 9.00 in the morning. The extraction was around midday. The dentist put a wad of cotton and told me to bite for a while. I did so and after an hour or so I took it out. No more bleeding. I've noticed at other times with small cuts that blood can seem to pour out immediately but with a little pressure it soon coagulates as per normal. When I first started on Riveroxaban a year or so ago I lived in terror of cutting myself. Now I never think about it. I guess it's possible different people respond differently. If the event hasn't already happened, I suggest you check with your dentist. I hope your extraction is (was) as easy as mine.
