Dizziness Starting

Hi -- I've been on Rivaroxaban 20 mg, Bisopropol 2.5 mg, and Candesartin 12 mg daily for almost 9 months. I didn't notice any side effects before, but for the last couple weeks I've started having short episodes of a little mild spaciness/dizziness in my head. Could I have developed this side effect so long after starting these drugs? Or might it be something else? I have had benign positional vertigo for like 30 years, but what I am having now is totally different, nothing like vertigo at all. (Vertigo and dizziness are two totally different things.) What I have now is just a fleeting feeling of weirdness in my head for a few second here and there, often when I bend my head down, etc. thanks for any help.

We are not medically trained but it may be low blood pressure or even short gaps in heart beat (like ectopics) . Rather than blame drugs see your doctor and explain as he may be able to shed some light on the subject. I do know the feeling by the way but sorted it after discussion with my GP..

Hi Goldey,

I can identify with what you are experiencing right now as I get the same light headed/dizzy spells occasionally. I too suffered from BPV for years but had it successfully cured. However I haven't as yet asked my GP about the odd dizzy spells, but I have a theory (as yet unproven) I am convinced that the two very tiny arteries which run up through the back of the head and into the brain get stretched when you bend your head, thus allowing less room for the blood and oxygen to pass. These arteries pass through a very boney area and get trapped and kinked when we turn our head. I think one is called the Basilar and can't remember the other one. Thats my experience so possibly food for thought. I doubt if it could be your medication after this period. I only take Apixaban and a Statin and still get the dizzy spells. Hope you get to the bottom of your dilemma and please keep us posted on your progress. I should point out this is more prevalent in older people who may have narrowing of the arteries. I'm 75

Best of luck in your quest.

Please go and get your blood pressure checked. I too got frequently light headed and it turned out my blood pressure was way too low. My Bisoprolol dose was halved and that solved the problem.

Hi. Lightheadedness is fairly common with af I think. I certainly get it, and assume it's low blood pressure. I get it a lot when I stand up quickly, bend over, etc. when my heart suddenly has to pump more blood to my brain, and I have to steady myself against furniture, walls, etc. It goes after a few seconds. I'm quite tall, and my brain is a long way up! This isn't helped by bisoprolol, which slows my heart rate to not much above 50 (like an olympic sprinter...).

You might see 'syncope' mentioned in reading arounf this. This where you actually faint, or are close to it, and is more serious; it sounds like you're nowhere near that, so I'd just mention it to your cardiologist next time, but not worry too much.

Tell your GP or preferably your EP if you have one immediately

Over time I am told one can develop side effects to betablockers hat include low blood pressure Witt the symptoms you describe. With me it happened immediately and I never took another but one can become sensitised over time
