Well it happened I totally forgot to take my Apixaban last night Only realised this morning It's something I have dreaded doing since starting them
Don't know what it is about the evening one I nearly always just remember to take them

I also used to forget mine at night, I always remember in the morning as I take it before breakfast, around 7.30am. Now I have set an alarm on my phone for 7.30pm every night, great never forget now but it does go off when Coronation Steeet is starting!! Heather

So, what time do you take your morning dose? It only needs to be twice a day, about 12 hours apart. If you delay your am dose until 9am, your alarm could be set for 9pm. I, too, use an alarm, but mine is on my Fitbit which I wear almost constantly.
Usually 7.30 in morning before I leave for work which means if I'm on 12 hour shift I have to take 7 30 pm in work as I finish at 8pm Get home a out 8.30
I would certainly not worry, myself, about an additional hour or even two. The idea of the two doses, I believe, is that the Apixaban gets rapidly eliminated by the body, but that doesn't mean it suddenly stops protecting you after 12 hours precisely, more that it has seriously weakened it's effect after 24 hours and should have been 'topped up' a bit earlier. Why not simply set a 9pm alarm and you should be fine?
I have missed many a dose. Some evenings I get 'dressed up' to go out, and wear my good looking wristwatch in place of my Fitbit. I always have good intentions not to forget the dose, but in good company I frequently do. I collect all the missed doses, and then use them for my emergency supply (kept on my keyring for when I can't get home for any reason) or to shift the renewal date slightly on my prescription.
Oh that's a good idea so I could take my morning one at 7.30am as normal and then take one at 9.00pm

It’s just my phone alarm, you can set as many as you want, I set one for 7.30pm every night also one for 5.30am every Monday morning as I go to look after my grandchildren for two days and have to travel 1 hour. Could you maybe change your tablet in the morning to 8pm and then take the other one when you finish work.
That's what I was doing but I'm working 8am till 8pm

It's a toss up on taking them in work so I take them say 8.30pm once I'm home or take them at 7.30am at home and then 7.30pm when in work
Yes, I also use the alarm on my phone to remind me to take a pill.

You are not a stupid person - you were forgetful - we’ve all done it (speaking only for myself and Hubbie who seems to do it frequently) and nothing bad happened so maybe now you won’t be as fearful of doing it again?

No you didn’t - you are human and forgot something that felt was important to you so you are beating yourself up, which is not nurturing to the mind, body or soul. Forgive yourself and see if you can come up with something which is a reminder for you. I
And really don’t think that an hour or even two either side of exactly 12 hours is that big an issue. It’s better to miss a dose than to accidentally overdose by taking 2.
That's true Well it's done now so the tablet will stay in the box Just took this morning so start a fresh I'm on a downer at moment so need to pull myself back up Don't even feel like going to work and have just took two days off sick
Sorry you are on a downer - it’s very hard to pull yourself back up and motivate yourself when you are in a hole - have you something to look forward to? Can you do something which gives you pleasure - even for a short while? xx
Not really Just so much happening with family at moment Daughter with schizophrenia is not too good and left me to look after her flat and rehome her cats Been doing that every day on top of working twelve hour shift Then I caught my cheek on a taxi door Come down with this cough and cold Upset stomach then forgot my tablet last night Minor thing I know
I've gone without my pill, late nights will do that to you! Take care of yourself and don't worry too much about the exact timing!

I have done the same thing a couple of times and even when I do remember it is often not exactly twelve hours!

Why not just take them with your breafast and dinner? That is what I do and it becomes natural after a while.

+/- half hour or so. Lets not get too OCD about this eh.? Best to take most pills with food anyway unless instructions say something like "do not take within two hours of food." (Impossible for me that lol )
The instructions say you can take a missed dose as long as there is 6 hours or more to go until the next dose. I'm afraid I've missed the morning one quite often 🙄 Sometimes I adjust a bit in the evening so it evens out more. I believe the half life is 24-48 hours so as Bob says an hour out is not going to be dangerous - better than forgetting altogether?
PS I have a cheap fitness tracker watch with an alarm facility - mine doesn't work very well but if you had reliable one you could wear it at work?

Aww Vonnie, I've just read your replies and I'm not surprised you're feeling low with everything on your plate at the moment. The nasty bugs going round are knocking people for six (me included) but then to have to work those long hours and not only care for and worry about your family but their pets too is IMO far too much for one person. I'm not surprised you forgot a tablet, just surprised it's only the first time! I'd forget my evening Apixaban all the time if my alarm didn't remind me. Sounds like you need a proper good break from everything xx

Well Yvonne I do hope you feel reassured after all the helpful replies you've had. As Bob says..better to have missed than to have doubled up. ( I did this many years ago with a strong anti arrhythmic just before starting the school run and my heart went wild ...)
You have so much to cope with as well as your long hours. I think you are doing very well. I can empathise with your daughter's mental health problems . Life can be so very sad. I do hope her problems which have become yours will resolve soon.

Thank you Sandra She has restarted her medication again and going to gp Only thing is I don't know where she is exactly She left her flat with her now partner because of trouble where she lived I knew she wasn't good again as her nastiness was aimed at me again mainly Think her partner has now gone due to her constantly Doubting him
When I first started taking Apixaban I was told ‘don’t forget to take them’. I thought to myself, as if I’d forget!
So before Xmas I sat on my bed eating a bag of crisps after work... looked over at my box of tablets and thought ‘I’ll take that in a sec’ ..... 10 mins later I had no idea whether I’d taken it or not!!! Talk about no memory! Anyway I didn’t risk another but think I probably missed one. Now, I have these little coloured pill boxes from Boots, all my tablets in for the day so when my brain loses it again, it won’t matter as my box will tell me! Alarms on phones and pill boxes ..... who woulda thought it would get to this?!!
However, it works!

Apixaban conveniently comes in packs with two rows of 7. I take one from the left in the morning and one from the right at night, starting on a Monday so I know where I am, works ok so far.

Can't you ask to change to a different anticoagulant? I take Xeralto which is one a day and it's easy, I always eat at the same time in the evening and take it with my meal.
As long as you are not due for a cardioversion in the next 3 weeks it is OK. I have set an alarm to remind me Irecommend you do that.
I have now set alarm on phone and my phone and i am not due any treatment In fact I was discharged from hospital after first cardiology appointment
HI Vonnieruth, I use an APP from the play store or Google, it is free and is called My INR. It allows me to in put my INR readings and medication required for the next 7/14/21 days. It alerts me with a simple buzz when my medication is required. It also alerts me when my next blood test is due ( I test at home every 7 to 14 days). I am on Warfarin but I do have friends who are on Apixaban and use this App and they have found it useful. This App isn't everything but it does help to remember when to take your does and how much you need to take. Hope this helps.

Still on reduced hours but now she is giving me them as two twelve hour shifts
I have my medication in a blister pack now, because I was forgetting to take my Apixaban.
But it’s worse when you have to leave them off for a procedure , like the Dentist
I use an app called message.you can pick your own reminder notification & set it to keep notifying you or as many times as you like.my reminder tells me to take my pill or I will get pregnant.my sense of humour LOL.Im 70

It happens me if i use my mobile for multiple alarms -- Warfarin is a tablet I must take warfarin is a tab i take at 4pm--as well as other meds
I have a 6pm alarm on my phone to remind me to take my evening pills. I'm on edoxaban and its only once a day but my bp tablets are 2 a day and I'd never remember without the alarm.
I am on Edoxaban which you only take once a day.
Hmmmm have done the same I have to stop this 2 days before biopsies on bladder not too worried have stopped warfarin for 10 days before same ops
My only concern is warning of stroke if stopped but think risk is same for all anticoagulants
My husband takes a pill at night, keeps the pills by the bed and has one with water that we keep by our bed. If you got into the habit of taking the second one then, it might help- just a suggestion. You could keep one strip of pills downstairs to have with breakfast and the other upstairs to take at night. For goodness sake don't worry about not taking the odd one as stress is no good for AF! I stopped taking apixaban ages ago as I thought the side effects worse than the incredibly slight risk of stroke as I only have paroxysmal AF and only get the occasional short episode but if your risk of stroke is higher than that, I hope my suggestion is useful.
My personal view is that missing a tablet is less important if your heart is behaving normally at the time, as Apixaban is taken only to stop a blood clot from forming in the heart. Of course, you may well not be monitoring your heart at the time, or you may have persistent AFib, so this consideration may be largely of theoretical interest. On the other hand, it might be reassuring at the time you remember that you missed the last tablet.
Left me annoyed with myself Like I said I hate taking tablets with all their side effects Had a bad reaction once so very cautious now but I hate missing them also
