lifestyle factors stop altzheimers :

all the usual advice that afib sufferers have got to know so well can also be very effective in stopping the development of memory problems, according to the Lancet neurology journal. Funny old world isn't it?

AF brings positives to the party. I follow food production closely and am dismayed that when we need best available food to heal us it is very hard (but not impossible) to get hold of - but don't despair the revolution is gathering pace, check out orfc.org.uk and as one example I read last week resurgence.org/magazine/art...

Dr Sarah Myhill has been banging on about this for a long time - she is/was a farmer. I remember having a dialogue with Koll about his livestock about a magnesium deficiency in the soil which of course can kill cows very quickly unless the symptoms are spotted & treated quickly.

I am so pleased to see a growing awareness abut all of this stuff along with people who are prepared to campaign to try change things. Maybe the old field rotation method was more effective at keeping our soils healthy than adding chemicals here and there.

My dad had an allotment for over 30 years and most of the allotmenteers do just that,rotate root with with above ground crops,and the soil only gets natural fertiliser when needed. My eldest son and I have now taken his allotment on this past year as he has ,sadly,passed away. The difference in taste has been marked!ok the get may look a bit wonky and sometimes a bit slug chomped but can live with that! Even a few pots of tomatoes and herbs at home can help. I agree,food is medicine..

Hi yes! With his chair, primus stove and kettle,and box of seeds...and his pride and joy,home made polytunnel and peach tree grown from a pip.Bittersweet....x

Food is Medicine - rubbish in = rubbish out. From what I can gather though it is also about lack of certain nutrients Which may be lacking in a lot of our foods generally, my neurologist likes to see my cholesterol numbers balanced and is very happy to see it at between 5-6 as long as the ratios are good. He tracks it better than the cardiology department. I found that very interesting.

My daughter's mother-in-law (75) had a check-up at her practice and was told she is seriously underweight. She was given a list of foods to eat and was horrified. She is Italian and an amazing cook, making most meals from scratch. She said (about the list) 'this is dirty food, rubbish!' She eats very well and just doesn't gain weight.

Italians are so very good at eating well. I’m with her as I had rubbish nutritional dvice from a nurse who was SO overweight trying to saywhat I should or shouldn’t eat - Which was mostly rubbish - that all I could do was laugh, she did take offence but then so did I. Thankfully I wasn’t the only person to complain about a very obese nurse giving advice on healthy eating so she didn’t stay long.

The only way to know if you are healthy or not is by testing to see if you are absorbing the right amount of minerals and vitamins so if you are naturally thin but fit and healthy with no underlying reason for unexpected weight loss. And at the end of the day ‘normal’ = a statistical average range.

Absolutely, about 8 years ago now we moved onto full fat everything but it has to come from the highest quality source. My arteries are all clear and my cholesterol is going down and I am back to the weight I was when I was 21.

I had been "underweight" all my life i ate mostly organic, paleo, full fat, i was fit and healthy active and i wlrked full time, apart from high blood pressure. 2 years ago i had a Hypertension crisis was put on meds and low fat diet with carbs etc, since then i have gained 2.5 stone so now "overweight" and AF plus several other heart problems. I am now unable to work and i feel awful, tired all the time and if I'm honest quite depressed.

My heart goes out to you. Pity about the medical intervention. It would have been unnecessary had you known what you are about to discover. My personal opinion is that the medical establishment is in big trouble. They have lost the plot. Try find yourself a good homeopath and/or naturopath and/or Maharishi Ayurveda and/or classical Chinese Acupuncture practitioner and follow their advice. Amazon "is Your Cardiologist Killing You by Sherry Rogers MD. Learn Transcendental Meditation at your nearest TM Centre. Maybe do that first because it has a huge evidence base for reducing hypertension and improving cardiovascular health. I have a PhD from a good university here in South Africa for my work demonstrating stress reduction from TM in work settings. Oh, and I just bought a little kindle book "My Journey With PACs, PVCs and SVT: How I Cured My Heart Palpitations." Disappointed to read he went for an ablation procedure - but it fixed it. For how long, who knows. All your stuff is reversible within a few months with good lifestyle, I promise, so don't be depressed.

Depression, Blood Pressure and Overweight and you are unable to work … which means that you have plenty of time for gentle exercise (an hour a day), careful meal planning and getting out in the green stuff to cheer you up. If you lose weight your blood pressure will slowly come down. If you can stand on the scales every week and see a small regular decline taking place you will be winning, Are there any walking groups in your area?
