Merry Christmas from Downunder

Last night we went out in the boat to show our nieces the Christmas lights on the canals near us. There’s one canal we call ‘Vegas’. The lights are amazing and it’s quite magical but it gets rather stressful as there are so many boats out. It’s like peak hour traffic on the freeway. Anyway I thought I’d share a few photos with my friends from around the world - I know most of you will have a wintery Christmas. The long range forecast here is for around 30 degrees Celsius so it should be perfect.

As for me, I’m doing okay. I’m still having daily AFib episodes despite all my drugs but the episodes are not as fast or as long. It’s now over 3 months since my ablation and I’m feeling a lot better in general (most of the time). Let’s see what 2019 brings 🎅🏼🎄🎉

Great photos Kaz, a bit different to what we're experiencing at the moment! My son in Perth will be enjoying the same as you so wishing you a Merry Christmas and hope you continue to improve after your op.

Looking forward to coming to Perth in March maybe catch up with you for a coffee while I'm there! 😎🎅🥂🎅🥂

Thanks Meadfoot. If my parents hadn’t immigrated whenI was a child I’d probably be enjoying Christmas in the frozen north myself ⛄️❄️🌨 And yes I’m lucky to live in an amazing place 😎. I hope you (and everyone here) has an AF free Christmas 💓💗

Would Melbourne agree with you about the weather?

Kaz747 profile image
Kaz747 in reply to fairgo45

Possibly not. Melbourne has 4 seasons in one day 😉

G'day Kaz ................ thanks for all the torment Lol! Lovely photos and am doing my best to enjoy your weather while watching Cricket from Perth Stadium. (prefer the WACA though).

C'mon Aussie c'mon ............... ya gotta beat India, and hopefully the Poms later on Lol!

Thanks John. I hope so too. I haven’t been to the new stadium yet. My husband has been for the footy and said it’s great but it does look rather empty with the cricket 🏏

Pleased you are feeling thatyou are gradually improving. I have also improved since ablation but now in persistent AF but to me thats less problem than paroxymal. Love the photos,i am coming out to Adelaide hills area middle of January, cant wait to be with my family again.Merry Christmas.

Kaz747 profile image
Kaz747 in reply to Fastbeat

Thanks Fastbeat. Is there plans to do anything else or is that it now, the persistent AF? Have a lovely Christmas and enjoy your Adelaide holiday!

EP letter to GP ( ablation fraught with difficulties and phrenic nerve damage)So discussion with me best leave if my quality of life has improved and it has, although persistent AF now its not as strong or troublesome. I am free to contact EP if things change or quality of life gets worse, my main problem is i cant walk slopes or hills without breathing problems. But life is good i try to do whatever i want wont let AF stop me,hence my trip to Australia on my own,i have been many times before but seeing i will be 79 next birthday this _may be my last.Merry Christmas.

Thanks - what frustrates me is that I’m only 54 and was in pretty good health until an ankle injury and subsequent surgery nearly 3 years ago which is when my heart dramas began. Still, it could be worse 😉

Love the photographs! I grew up in a tenement in Scotland, and those people who did have Christmas trees invariably put them at the window facing the street (often in a bedroom) and as children we loved looking at the sparse dimly lit little trees! My husbands's parents used to take him and his brother to Alconbury American Air Base to see the Christmas lights in the American homes which were amazing in comparison to what we had in the UK at the time.

Do hope you continue to improve.

Kaz747 in reply to irene75359

Thanks Irene. I remember as a kid around Christmas time looking in all the windows to see who had a Christmas tree up. Outdoor lighting has got big here over the last few years (like America) and whilst it’s good looking at the decorated houses on the streets, looking at the ones on the water via boat is quite magical. There is a cruise company here that does 3 or 4 Xmas light cruises a night for 5 or 6 weeks and they book out as soon as the bookings open.

Oh no! I can empathise with both of you. Last time I went skiing I was rescued by hunky medics and taken to the medical centre on the stretcher pulled by the snowmobile. I tore my calf muscle so was on crutches for a few days then had 6 weeks of physio. I could only wear high heels as I couldn’t straighten my calf to get my foot flat on the ground 😂😂

Oh heck, skiing is sooo dangerous at times!

We’ve got visitors here fir Xmas now it’s all down to me, I hope this heart behaves itself!!!

Well take care and make the visitors all pitch in. We’re having 15 for lunch at our place Christmas Day so I’ve told everyone that they have to help.

Merry Christmas from California 🎄. Australia is on my bucket list - but for the flight!

Kaz747 profile image
Kaz747 in reply to mbheart

It’s a long way but it’s worth it. Last time we went to the USA we used frequent flyer points to upgrade to Business Class - that made the flight easy ✈️😉

What pretty christmassy photos! I saw something like this in Santa Barbara CA many years ago. What a treat to have warm, sunny Christmas. Have many friends in Australia, their photos of flowers, sunshine and beaches help me get through our cold, snowy NY winters. And I send photos of snow to help them cool down. Lol! Good luck with your continued healing! I’m 10 months post 2nd ablation, still having short afib episodes. Seeing a new EP next month for a 2nd opinion. Seems that the first dr isn’t listening to me anymore.

We always said we’d like to have a white Christmas one day with the family but haven’t managed it yet. I hope the second opinion is helpful for you. Keep us updated with what happens.
