I live in Italy and have been taking warfarin for a few years now. The last few tests I noticed the nurse at the anti-coagulante centre took one sample and disposed of it and then took another one. I asked her why and she said they'd seen that the blood flowed better for the second one. I'm curious to know whether this is general practice or something new.

Is this for a blood draw or Coagucheck machine.?

a blood draw. She also said the first lot was thrown away. As Padova is a well known teaching hospital I wondered if it was something they were testing or just a general thing.

On the website coaguchek say discard first drop but the nurses don't at our surgery and OH and I have lived to tell the tale!

I had a Coaguchek nurse at my house. Shown how and told to apply the first drop. If the test fails then use another finger.
