Diagnosed with Afib 3 months ago a put on Rivaroxaban. Have been suffering with terrible pains in wrist upper arms and back of thighs. My cardiologist has now changed me to Edoxaban two days ago. The pains are easing but today have woken up to a subconjunctival haemorrhage in my left eye. Is this a common side effect of anti-coagulants?

A subconjunctival hemorrhage
I take Apixaban and this has happened to me once about 18 months ago. I was fortunate in that we had a support group meeting and both a cardiologist and an EP assured be it was nothing to worry about and that a forceful sneeze probably caused a blood vessel to burst. Took about a week to disappear as so far has never been repeated. Probably worth checking with your doctor just to be sure.
I’ve had this happen a couple of times in the last 5 years on Apixaban. I got the first one checked by the optician who said it was nothing to worry about. It can be caused by rubbing an itch in the eye and takes 7 to 10 days to fade away.
If in any doubt, get it checked out.
Last week my optician rushed me to teh emergency eye clinic for scans and a field test because I was waking several times at night seeing black spckles everywhere. Not floaters. They decided it was either possibly a bleed behind my eye and nothing to worry about or optic neuritis and I also have peripheral neuropathy. I never even thought about the tablets.
Hi Glama I had a subconjunctival haemorrhage a few months after starting to take Apixaban .
It looked pretty gruesome but wasn't painful and went away after a few days.
