Hi all

I had cardioversion yesterday and it worked, my HR is in NSR which is lovely after months of permanent AF but I seem to be quite breathless which has surprised me. Am I being impatient? Or should I speak to my Dr?

I have never felt breathless after any of my very many cardioversions. I would advise you to speak to your doc

Are you taking Bisoprolol per chance ??!

Yes I am 10mg a day

I am not a medical person but I've found that Bisoprolol has alot to answer for including undue breathlessness. You are on the top dose ( in UK) so you may find that your doc will reduce it. Don't of course make any adjustment with out proper approval.

Personally I can't function on any but the lowest dose of Bisop but plenty of others are fine on 10mg.

Hope you get this sorted.

Best wishes

Thank you I have contacted my surgery and will see my GP later to hopefully get it sorted

Agree with Sandra. I believe the leaflet says you should wean yourself off Bisoprolol gradually so if your Doctor suggests reducing the current (high) dose, ask about doing it in stages. I don’t want to be a party pouper but a CV rarely stops AF for ever but it’s great news that it has worked because, should it return, it does mean you are more likely to respond well to other treatment, ie an ablation. Great news!

My cardioversion lasted about a week the first time

Congratulations!!!! I started on 10mg and found it took some weeks for my body to adjust. May the force be with you and may your NSR be ever lasting. The really good news is that you can be converted. Good luck with your appointment with your GP.

when I was in AF my HR was in the hundreds even when I was on 12.5 mg bisoprolol

had a cardioversion and my HR came down to 50 bpm. but the junior doctor told me to keep up with 12.5 mg a day.

needless to say that I was tired and breathless. after a couple of days I phoned my EP, he wasnt happy that I was told to carry on at such a high dose.
