I am now 6 weeks post ablation. 2nd one in 13 yrs. Have been feeling very sick since starting on the pantoprazole for the Tee and ablation ….. the EP cut the dose I/2 still very sick so g.p. cut it 1/2 again. Haven't been on any now for a week and still feeling awfully sick. Like continuous acid reflux....this is just awful....never had a Tee or this problem with first ablation. Hope someone out there has some suggestions. Anxiously awaiting your reply. Thank you.

I guess it’s not going to help much if I tell you that this reaction often happens after an ablation, but normally as severe as you are suggesting. I was prescribed Lanzoprolol for 8 weeks after my ablation so it’s not unusual for EP’s to see this as a potential problem post procedure. If I were you, I would contact the Arrhythmia Nurse attached to your hospital or contact your EP’s secretary as there maybe some benefit in having the area investigated to make sure all is well. Also, ask your GP or Pharmacist if something as simple as Gaviscon might give some relief......

Or Ranitidine, PPIs allow gut bugs to flourish unfortunately. Nothing worse than feeling sick when you are trying to recover.

There are two other classes of drugs to deal with these problems, and I believe both can be prescribed by the GP so go and see them tomorrow. There are other prazoles, and sometimes people are fine on one but not so good on others, but from your description I suspect they will all have the same effect.

Thanks Mike 11

I think I will have the same problem regardless of drug...I am quite petite and don't handle most medications very well. I never had the reflux prob to begin with until the TEE and PVI Ablation and now ever since the ablation it seems I am feeling more and more sick with this acid reflux than I am better...initially it gave me IBS syptoms but now it is most definitely acid and it is even coming up as far as my throat. I am afraid there is a bigger problem here than perhaps I expect. This is just not right, bending over at the waist is excruciating as it causes the acid to worsen for some reason as does lying down....there was nothing like this with the first ablation, not even close. Think I will phone EP tomorrow.

That sounds like it could be a hiatus hernia. Ask the consultant to X-ray you to check this.
