It has been a mixed couple of weeks. Some reasonable and some downright awfull. Had my appointment with the consultant about the histology report from the bladder cancer. It wasn’t very good. Apparently it is G3 PT1 High grade. Need repeat operation ASAP. If bladder is clear I will need BCG treatment . If not they will have to remove the bladder. I am very scared, especially after reading all the possible side effects of the BCG treatment. What worries me is as the cancer was deeper than they had anticipated, he couldn’t give me the chemo rinse after. Because it could go into the blood stream and cause problems. How about the TB than? I feel so broken. A bit of light for me my GP has agreed to swap me from warfarine to Apixaban with the help of the warfarine clinic that is likely to happen sooner than later. Please has anybody had experience of BCG treatment? Hope everyone is faring better than me at the moment.

Not possible for me to comment ,as female....but sending hugs and thoughts.You must be worried but medicalscience is very good these days,and we are lucky to have access to it.
My dad had advanced bowel cancer,plus a relapse ,plus prostrate cancer,as well as triple by pass and replacement valve surgery.He lived for 18 years after all that,surviing a massife stroke and died from complicstions of a broken hip...
What i am saying is..things are not always as bad as we think.Sometimes medics have to tell us worse case scenario....
Thanks for this update - You are soldiering through a horrid patch and it is a reminder to us all that AF can be a fairly tolerable little gremlin and there are ogres about.
I'm so sorry to hear about your health problems and also have to admit I don't know what BCG treatment is?
I'm afraid I can't answer your question, but just wanted you to know that I care about you, your health and what you are going through at the moment. You are part of our AF family and always will be, so we will always be here for you should you need any moral support.

Will do. Ironic I started this year on the 5th of January in A&E with AF and chest pains, should have known that it was a bad start. But on the up side I am still here. Xx
Way out of my league Rienij, wonder if there is another community in health unlocked that may be able to help. Jean's right, everyone will be willing you on to get this sorted so that you can get back to worrying about AF and good luck with the Apixaban which suits me fine. All the best!
This is a big change in your life to adapt to. For many many people this treatment has been a bigstep in the right direction. I am no expert as this treatment was not available when I worked as part of the cancer care community. What I can say is the huge advances in treatment are just amazing and this is a cause for optimism.
You can ring Macmillan Cancer Support and chat to a nurse which could be useful
You are coping with dark times at the moment, rest assured that you are in all of our hearts and prayers. I agree with previous comments, my mother had an op for advanced bowel cancer. She had heart problems and thrombosis. Afterwards she could not have chemo because of her heart. But here she is 10 years later, 87 and fit as a fiddle. So take heart and take it one day at a time. xx

The feeling h is being scared and all you see are hospital treatments ahead of you.the specialist nurse said you will make lots of new friends. Not really what you want under them circumstances. But you are right must try to stay positive. Xx
One of my closest friends is having BCG treatment/rinses for bladder cancer. She had bowel cancer 7 years ago which had attached to the bladder. She has had 6 x weekly treatments with virtually no side effects and will continue to have 3 x weekly ones every 3 months. They only took a couple of minutes and just had a few rules to adhere to for a couple of hours. She is certainly not scared about having the next set. I hope it goes as smoothly for you.
Get the bleach in! She had to use it loads every time she went to the toilet for a few hours but other than that and occasionally a bit of stinging that day she was fine. I took her the first time and dropped her off and by the time I had put the car in the car park and walked to the main door I met her coming out! All NHS. She was never there more than 5 mins.
That sounds promising. It takes about an hour drive from our home to the Churchill Hospital. A pain but can’t be helped. I read about the bleach I tend to chuck that down sinks anyway. Just get some more in. Xx
Just read this and I am really so sorry you are going through all of this, such a worrying time for you.
My mother-in-law had cancer of the bladder, and had the bladder removed (don't think BCG would have helped). She soon became used to coping in private and in social situations, her full life carried on as normal and no one would have known. She eventually died but it was nothing to do with the bladder.
I hope it doesn't come to that but just letting you know her experience in case it does. Thinking of you and truly wishing you well.
