Live heart surgery

I wasn't going to tune in last night to watch the open heart surgery because I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to blood but I did catch the last 3/4 of an hour and it was amazing.

I have recently undergone valve replacement and repair along with an ablation and later had a pacemaker fitted and it really helped me to understand exactly what happened to me during those procedures.

It also made me feel less concerned about future procedures that I am to undertake next Spring.

And until they started the heart pumping again, there wasn't that much blood!

I've taped this, OH thinks I'm a bit weird for wanting to see it! I just think it's similar to "inside natures beasts" that Channel 4 did ages ago. Cutting open a whale a tiger a giraffe etc. Fascinating.

I think that the most fascinating part is that we take heart matters so seriously and yet the Consultants do this type of operation hundreds of times and are almost blaze about it!

Oh no, I forgot all about it. What channel was it on, as I may take a peak on catch up? Or would I rather not know what happens?

It's on Channel 5 and was very informative. I am a big baby when it comes to blood but the bits I saw were fine. No hiding behind the cushion for me!

Watch half, the rest tonight. Mixed feelings, I had open heart surgery to repair the mitral valve, up to now almost 14 years on , slight leak so possibly something in the future, also had a two lead pacemaker in February this year in Barts . Quite frightening to watch, but so grateful to these fantastic doctors.

They've used Amiodarone on Casualty and I scream at the tele. NO don't take it! They never listen and they usually recover!

Jesus I couldn't watch that. It would freak me out. I remember turning the tele on when I was young and it was a documentary in A and E. Some bloke was having multiple heart attacks and they had to fit stents. It totally traumatised me as I already had health anxiety about my own heart lol. For me, knowing and seeing less is better 😁

Oh bless you. I found it had the opposite effect on me and made me realise that I'm not the only person to have undergone this procedure and the Consultants know what they are doing. It seemed to humanise them.
