Been on bisoprolol since September different dose. . Also told doctors that I was struggling with breathing on it and cramps. Told to suck it up(ok not as blut as this )

Went off 2.5 mg bisoprolol for a few days at doctors request to see what side effects where meds and what was anixety and a problem with vitamins/ hormones. Anyway BP spiked last night long story short I took half the tablet at 3am then the other half 3pm today.

Within 20 mins the fingers and face/more jaw wanted to cramp/pins and needles . But my biggest problem came gradually. I couldn’t breath. Felt like I was being choke slightly and mouth very dry. Recalled doc (whom I had seen today). Forgot to mention how bad the cramps were as still had them but not as bad as have pco of vit d, We think plus for I could suddenly breath again.

She told me to try and put up with it. As lowering bp.

Went to see her over the course of two weeks and Bp was 140/92 and 140/90 on second week but I had gas problems including cough and chest pain and bloating. She told me gas and told me she see me next week. Told her pulse drops to 40 at times. anyway pain got worse so went to another GP told after taken on half and a small quarter of 2.5 dose (12am).Three hours later bp down to 125/78. He told me to take only 1.25 dose and sent me on my way pain in chest, cough etc has easier slightly today but I’m now scared about lower the dose of bisoprolol any advice would be helpful

as tried to stop immediately once before and panicked and shot bp up when pulse/Hr went mad.

I have to go back next week and we’re taking it from there. However I noticed that I have become some what health anixety now. And worry about if and when heart starts racing. I wasn’t told what to do in that circumstance.

Although anxiety and fear help protect us from danger, the dangers of modern life do not often need the adrenalin rush that anxiety is hard wired to provide. The most important thing is to slow your breathing. This may be tough at first if you have issues with breathing at the time. Just count 4 breathing in and 6 to breathe out. When possible extend to 7/11.

Worth looking at relaxation on you tube or mindfulness. Many of us use headspace app but there are lots to try.

How is it going?

Cut myself down to half of 1.25

Never felt so ill. Spasms, face flushed, dizzy ness even lying down. Mind I do have some moments where I feel half normal.

Same. Got my dose down to half of a half 1.25. Nearly never took it this morning but the anixety got the better of me as I have a bug today and feeling rough enough.

However it’s so nice to see some colour in my hands and toes.

I’ve got a stress full meeting Thursday so not sure to do ever other day this week.

Sounds like your panicking. I agree on sticking with 1.25mg if that is what the Dr has said and maybe half it or take every other day. I just changed from bisoprolol as I hated it. Chill out, it sounds like your new to this heart game?

There are alternatives to Bisoprolol, perhaps just knowing that will help!

We are all so differant to the drugs we take and react to I have been on 10 mg Bisoprolol for many years but was give a further 2 tablets to take, my BP dropped to a very low level and I was told to move down to 7.5mg. Which did make it go to near normal levels. I still get the odd blip were it drops again but with the many medicines and condiions I have to juggle with it is not surprising.

All in all getting tense over your health will give you all the signs you are getting? The way I look at it if I saw the doctor as I felt then I should feel the same after as if I was not told anything. If that makes sense?

Is the withdrawal always this tough. I’ve bearly sleeped and my nerves feel on fire. Also very dizzy this morning until I took 1.25

140/ 90 is hardly very high blood pressure. How old are you? Doctors used to be taught that the upper figure should be 90 plus the patient's age. Now everyone is supposed to have the BP of a twenty year old. There are other meds for lowering BP . Using beta blockers just for this is no longer considered good practice. Do you need the Bisoprolol for lowering the heartrate? If you want to wean off it should be done very slowly.

I’m 41. Before any meds my bp was 160/100 next day also at gp 175/117. Then lipsorilil and shoot up to 185/138 with heart rate of 156

my god how are you still alive with an episode of such high BP and heart rate unbelieveable you’re a warrior

Is the bisop to reduce the HR when you are in AFIB? Are You paroxysmal AFIB? How often are your attacks. If you have a lot of attacks and high HR during you need a rate control but it does not need to be Bisop.

I could not tolerate even 1.25mg of the stuff , I only lasted a week on it (mostly asleep!)

I eventually ended up on Verapamil and diltiazem (calcium channel blockers).

Regards

Diltiazem Put me in A&E! It goes to show how differant we are. I have a marker not to be given it now!

Same with me for Bisop! LOL (the marker not the A&E)

Heart rate 150bpm at rest and going up to stupid levels on minor excertion and felt like I had the flu all the time. Was put on Intravenus Digoxin to get it down but that only lasted a few days but in the end it sorted it self out.

No bp only all readings of heart clear. Apart from liprsolil one. Which had etopics.

I’m on it just for high bp no heart problems ever. However will on bisoprolol I’ve had ever one of their serious side effects. Gp says continue as lowered bp but the effects got worse.

Mjltazz profile image

When I mentioned last time to gp about serious side effects he went well what do you want me to do.

KMRobbo profile image
KMRobbo

I am not medically trained. BUT If you do not have afib, then what you want him to do is to switch you to an alternative that will do the required with the BP reduction without making your life a misery!

He has plenty of options!

I did 7 days on bisop, every time I took one I was asleep in 40 minutes woke up 3 or 4 hours later with pain in my upper chest and arms and feeling really crap and very tired. I had no exercise tolerance, my max HR was much less than 120 bpm and i could not run. I went to the GP and she switched me to Atenolol another beta blocker, which was much better but still bad. I still spent half he day in bed with extreme tiredness. I did 2 weeks on that with no improvement and went back . The GP said it sounded like I did not get on with beta blockers so let's try veapamil, a calcium channel blocker. Immediate change, hardly any side effects. I did not need to do anything, the GP realised that the cure was worse than the problem - at that time I had only had one known afib attack.

I think this is what GP's are supposed to do!

I’ve had that. It’s horrible especially when waking to it.

Went today saw doctor and this time they admitted they got this so wrong. I didn’t have high bp problems to start with and should never have been put on bp meds in first place. Problem is I’ve reacted badly to this med. including the anixety and depression side affect and now to scared of anything including taken a paracetamol . I’m scared to withdrawal he says 1.25 is a minimal amount and to stop after this three days of good bp. But I’m scared of the emotional withdrawal. Tempted to half the meds at 1.25. Problem is it causes me to be anixious and have spams etc.

Would you stop or half. I appreciate you are not trained but personal withdrawals much appreciated.

Sorry I should explain perhaps. After two 160/100 175/115 readings only at doctors office and on antibiotics I was place lisprosil ace inhibitors. Problem now as I explained I hooked to bisoprolol due to body reaction to it. I also told gp since day one I was feeling worse on it.

Quick question does the fuzzy feeling or being slightly intoxicated pass. I’m only taken 1.25 but feel only slightly better on the spaced on feeling. Or is that the anixety I’ve got about coming off.

Jimmyson profile image

Sounds like Bisoprolol has made your anxiety worse and given you the horrible spaced out / fuzzy feeling. I too take 1.25mg and had horrible side effects trying to come off it. If your BP is low enough to not require meds, suggest taking the medication every other day for a week and then stop. Possible with a small dose of Propranolol/Diazepam to counter the withdrawl anxiety/shakiness.
