29th September is World Heart Day. I know we are very aware of our hearts. This blog post was written by one of our local cardiothoracic surgeons, Dr Nikki Stamp.

Thank you for sharing that. Great blog & early morning read.

My husband just asked me what I was reading so I told him that I was reading about the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest. Quick as a flash he told me the difference - A heart attack is when the heart tribe attack but beware because the cardiac tribe are readying themselves to make an arrest.

See what I have to live with..........that the Irish for you. X

I’ve read the book that Dr Stamp wrote and I’m going to a free public lecture that she’s giving in November. I don’t want to meet her (or any other heart surgeon) in an operating theatre. She’s working hard at educating people so they don’t end up in a cardiac ward.

She has a great way of explaining in a simple none jargon and understandable way.

She did a documentary for ABC TV which is now on YouTube so you should be able to watch it

And her book is an easy read too

The only problem with CPR is that you brake people's ribs if you are doing it properly. Small price to pay for survival as I know so don't feel bad about it. If you don't then you aren't doing it right.

Yep, a broken rib is easier to fix than a ‘broken’ heart

Don't half bloody hurt though! And not so much of the a rib. LOTS!
