Coming off the drugs pre Ablation

The surgeon has advised to stop taking all meds 2 days before the operation however last time meds were stopped in preparation for some tests were the worst days and the AF was almost constant and unbearable, so much so that the hospital visit was brought forward.

Can anyone share any experiences or advice as this is the thing that is causing the most anxiety pre ablation.

many thanks

Can you perhaps get in touch with the arrhythmia nurse at the hospital to let her know how you are feeling?

I went into a horrible fast AF on the morning of my last ablation which removed any doubts I had about the wisdom of having the procedure. However I wouldn't have liked to have 2 days in that condition.

Hope someone here may be more helpful to you.

Thanks Sandra, yes going for the pre op scan on Thursday so will try and see her then

They are the experts and will want you dug free for a reason. It may be uncomfortable for a couple of days, but you will soon be sorted

I think you have to follow the EP’s advice. Are you taking the same meds that you had to stop last time. May I ask what they are?

Hi Oyster, thanks for the reply. Last time it was the propanolol that was stopped but don't take those anymore. Have to stop bisoprolo and flecinide 2 days before and apixaban on the morning of the ablation

I can see the logic of stopping the flecainide to improve the chances of finding the focus to ablate. Maybe if you let the EP know how you felt last time, he/she would agree to you using the Biso if you needed to, since I imagine this won’t prevent the AF.

Good answer from Oyster. At the pre-op I'd also question why they want you to come off Apixaban, it's generally advised now to keep on anticoags during ablation and heparin doesn't work as well.

Morning janeCorn, I had my third ablation last Wednesday and was told to carry on taking all my meds ( flecainide omeprazole) except my anticoagulant. Hope everything goes ok for you which I’m sure it will.
