Have my date for my third ablation, next Wednesday 12th. Wasn’t expecting it to be so quick so a bit nervous now and a bit weepy.

It was third time lucky for me too Redders. You are in good hands and all will be well. Please don't worry, I have a feeling you are going to be telling us how much better it has made you feel this time.

Big hug my friend and hope to see you in a few weeks time.

Thank you Jean, I’m looking forward to the 26th. Do you think I’ll be ok by then to catch a train ?

Yes, so long as someone drops you off at the railway station and picks you up. Or you can get a bus if it doesn't involve too much walking. After my third ablation I felt better almost right away. I'm really hoping you'll be the same. Let GH use the piece of equipment we both know about if you're offered it. As that may be what made my last ablation successful.

He used the camera when I had my cardioversion so he knows where the problem is. What I’m a bit worried about is catching sepsis when they go in through the groin. There’s so much in the press about it now. The two previous ablations I never gave it a thought. I’m stupid I know.

You're not going to get that! x

Good luck, third time lucky. I understand your nervousness, this arrhythmia business is a tough old game but fingers crossed this time you can be rid of it.

We are all with you here cheering you on. Best wishes.

I get the weepy bit, but you will be fine. Lots of positive thinking and deep breathing and it will done before you know it and your will soon be telling us all how there was nothing to worry about really at all.

We will be sending lots of positive thoughts. Love X

Good luck Redders . It's natural to feel weepy and for our imagination to run wild. Lots of positive thoughts and a bit of deep breathing and in a couple of weeks you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

Re: infection - I scrubbed prior to going in for the procedure - like we did in the “old” days. Figured it can’t hurt. Good luck with #3! We’ll be waiting to hear how you’re doing.

I’m having it done at Derriford hospital Plymouth. My other two ablations were also done there. X

Good luck,at least you haven't long to wait and dwell on it...I understand the weepiness. I have had a few operations over the years and always blart for days prior to them, also as they prep me,and afterwards ! Probably written on my notes..this woman is neurotic! Joking apart,I'm sure everything will go well and it will all be behind you soon .best wishes xx

Thank you Wilsond yes I usually come around from the anaesthetic in tears. Wonder why x

I totally understand the trepidation and weepiness. The third one seems to work for lots of people. As far as sepsis is concerned I think there has been so much about it recently that everyone is getting a bit paranoid. I remember in the 'old days' people going in for operations were advised to wash the area in coal tar soap for a couple of days beforehand. Don't know if you can still get it but might be worth looking just for peace of mind. Good luck. In a week it will all be done and dusted.

Thank you grandmadogs, when I had my pre assessment swob test they gave me a prescription for a antiseptic wash in case I had mrsa (think that’s it ) but not heard anything from the hospital to say I have got mrsa but I will have a good wash with the antiseptic wash just in case.

Was wondering how many cardioversions you had before your first ablation and will this be your final ablation

Redders profile image
Redders in reply to David-T

I’ve had 5 cardioversion all together but I think it was just 1 before my first ablation. Hopefully this will be my last one but you never know

clemsonwebdesign profile image
clemsonwebdesign in reply to Redders

Wow. I have had like 30 cardioversions. Like 3 to 6 a year. 37m w HCM, occasional afib with rvr. When I have afib , Im very symptomatic and they cardiovert me right in the ER. I'm usually home in 3 hours.

Redders profile image
Redders in reply to clemsonwebdesign

Wow that’s a lot of cardioversions. I don’t know anyone that’s had that many. Are you in the UK ?

clemsonwebdesign profile image
clemsonwebdesign in reply to Redders

No, in the US. EP says to stay with meds and cardioversion as long as I can stand it.

I was nervous for my first and second though

The pros and cons of an ablation are listed at:

everydayhealth.com/atrial-f...

It seems from this that the pros greatly outweigh the cons.

Redders profile image
Redders in reply to

That was an interesting read. I’ve had af for about 20 odd years and in permanent af since last Xmas.

in reply to Redders

I haven’t had an ablation but it seems that it is generally a safe procedure with a good chance of success. I was told by a friend who knows a retired cardiologist that it is important that the procedure is carried out by someone (or rather a team) who has done it many times with a good success rate. As you have had two ablations already, at least you know what to expect. There is no easy remedy for anxiety before the procedure , but there is some useful practical information here. If even one of the nine tips works for you it’s worth reading:

psychcentral.com/lib/9-ways...

My doctor is recommending I have this procedure too

I’m kind of nervous about it

I’m having a second cardioversion on the 20th

Can you tell me a little bit about the ablation

Redders profile image
Redders in reply to Pudge

I’m not very good at explaining about ablations but the only thing I don’t like is you have to lie flat on your back for a few hours after you’ve had it done. Once I’m in the hospital I’ll be ok and not too nervous because I’ll be having a full anaesthetic. They go in through the groan so that is sometimes a bit sore after. I’m sure someone else on here will explain the procedure to you better then me but it’s really not too bad. Hope you make the right decision and good luck for the future x

Sending Positive energy and light your way- for a successful ablation/ Time will pass quickly - maybe listen to some positive videos, enjoy the outdoors and find a distraction.

Deep breathing and positive affirmations really help me - I also use essential oils (Frankincense but our minds often create emotional blocks - so Release and let go -soon you’ll be on the other side of the procedure 🤗
