Is atrial tachycardia just another name for a type of AF

Hi all I was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis just over a year ago. I then had an aortic valve replacement a couple of months later and due to my age it was decided to give me a mechanical valve replacement even though it will mean being on life long warfarin. Post operatively I developed a permanent mild tachycardia and hypertension despite being on large doses of bisoprolol (15mg) and also being on amlodipine and Losartan. It was thought that the cause was probably rogue nodes so I was put on the list for An EPstudy and ablation, which I went for about 3 months ago. Unfortunately it was discovered that there were no rogue node but the tachycardia was being stimulated by the sinus node and the Doctor that did the procedure told me and put on the discharge letter that I had Atrial Tachycardia and said he would be discussing my case with my cardiologist. Now I thought I would be sent a new Cardiology apt as my next Cardiology appointment isn’t till October. I haven’t heard of Atrial Tachycardia before and was wondering if it was just another name for a type of AF.

Hi Robert. Short answer, no. This might help, or not!

AF is an irregularly irregular heart rhythm. AT which is a form of supraventriculat tachycardia or SVT is regular.

I’ve been diagnosed with atrial tachycardia, atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation (lucky me 😍)

Ah I did wonder if it might be related to SVT as well. It was the fact that immediately post op after the valve replacement whilst in hospital I had a couple of episodes of Fast AF, but I had been reassured that this is not unusual with open heart surgery and was why all patients have temporarily external pacing wires post op.
