INR testing for visitors

I am here on holiday from Italy. I need to have an INR test done on 4 Sept. I go back on the 8th. I have in the past had it done at A & E but have been told that I need to register with a Dr. I was hoping to find a private clinic or similar (I have seen that some Boots & Lloyd pharmacy do it). I am in Doncaster and was hoping that at least in Sheffield or Leeds I would be able to get it done. Has anyone got any idea where I can get it done in this area. I know there's no problem for people in London.

There is a private BUPA hospital in Doncaster and you can call them on 01302 553 355. Their address is Park Hill Hospital, Thorne Road, Doncaster DN2 5TH.

Does your INR usually keep in range? If so I wonder if waiting the few extra days until you get back to Italy would be a problem.

I agree Jean, unless there is some special reason, I would wait until patient goes home.

Thanks. It's quite stable and in fact I was surprised that the INR Dr had put that date as the last few years it's been a day or two after I get back

Privately you could probably get it done in Sheffield at with Claremont or Thornbury private hospitals, costly though. Would another four or five days wait be an issue if you are usually stable. However if not you could try one of the hospitals above.

Cant you register with a local GP in Doncaster as a temporary patient.

Thanks I will just wait till I get back. They'll probable just put a note on the results to tell me to make sure to go on the day they tell me :)

try a local chemist. When I am in Spain I pop into one and he charges e15 and does while I wait. I then send a text back to UK and they say OK. I usually sit and admire the sea views afterwards.

I believe BOOTS chemists offer this service in the UK for around £12. May also be worth asking the pharmacists in the TESCO extra if they offer this service - they do chloresterol and diabetes/ sugar levels / Blood pressure tests so It may be possible.

As Jean & John said earlier - If your INR is stable why bother for the sake of a few days?

I would not bother for a few days to be honest. If you are generally in range I doubt this would cause a problem. I often go two months at least between tests. My next is 26th October!

Thanks I was thinking that would be best, after I realised it wasn't going to be as easy as going to a Pharmacists.

There was a reciprocal availablility of medical assistant between EU countries and to my knowledge, at the moment, it still exists. If you have an INR book just go along to a doctor or hospital and they should do it for you on that basis.
