Should I go back on beta blockers

Had Ablation for AF seven weeks ago, previously was on Ameoderone and dijoxin to control AF which it did apart from skipped beats now and then, specialist advised I have the ablation done, I know it takes a while to settle down after the ablation, but now having missed beats daily, instead of weekly, should it be better to go back drugs and get my life back, beginning to wonder was it all worth it...

Perhaps it's a good idea to speak with your EP and get his/her advice. Is there an arrhythmia nurse at the hospital where you had your ablation, they are a good resource to link into and a route to getting to your EP for support.

I haven't had an ablation but from all I have read here over the years it's very early days post ablation, don't forget your heart has been through a trauma and will take sometime to settle, it's early days, but please get some expert advice. Please don't despair.

Thankyou got your reply, unfortunately there is no specialised nurse at the clinic, so will have to contact my EP , but it makes you think have I done that the right thing, at the moment I am not sure...

I understand that feeling it's only natural when things don't feel to be improving and you feel they are getting worse. Might not seem like early days but it is keep hold on to the fact that your heart has had an onslaught and needs time to settle. Ring your EP tomorrow to put your mind rest. Be confident things will improve.

Yes it is a physical trauma and a mentally takes time too to regain confidence.....Yes Heart can take months to settle post ablation....I stayed on bisoprolol post ablation and gradually reduced dose to smallest......stayed on that small dose as long as I thought I needed it. Only stopped very recently.

Ps I was on both the drugs you mention......before settling to bisoprolol. It is certainly not without side effects, loss of energy..low moods..but simpler for me than the amioderone and digoxin

It is far too early to worry about this . It can be three to six months before things settle down. Ectopic beats such as this are very common. in fact everybody gets them. It is just that we AFers get too obsessed and aware of our hearts. There is a deep breathing exercise which usually stops Ectopics which you can find if you use the search facility top right. Personally I did not stop my anti arrhythmic drug right away by instruction so you may wish to speak to your EP for their advice.

I am surprised Bob that I didn't continue on my anti arythmia drugs, as other people I know, that had the same procedure still remained on the drugs for a while, it seems strange do you think.

Different EPs have different ideas but amiodarone is a bad one for any body!

Everyone’s situation is different, Leeson. Your EP will have made his decision based on the facts of YOUR condition. I wasn’t taking an anti-arrhythmic Prior to my ablation 5 week’s ago but my EP started me on one this week. As BobD suggests, put your mind at rest and ask your EP, but don’t self-medicate.

Just to reiterate BobD's comment 'amiodarone is a bad one for any body'.

Please anyone on this drug check the side effects and talk to your consultant. I know we all react differently to drugs but this is a real nasty.

Amioderone my Doc gave me as a short term fix when everything else was failing .....and I was going away....and needed something to hold the AF situation. It was great but I was appraised of the side effects and knew it would be short term only. When I came back after 3 months we found another solution.

Good luck to anyone working out what drugs are best for them. Luckily there are some choices and some side effects do moderate a bit as the body adjusts.

Shortly after my ablation, I started having a lot of "missed beats", including what I believe is called bigeminy and trigeminy (very regular pattern where every you have two or three normal beats followed by an abnormal one). usually just walking around for a bit stopped those.
