Cardioversion

Had a cardioversion on Wednesday morning and now back in SR for the first time since January. Feel so much better now but have been put on the waiting list for my third ablation. I also had a oesophageal pacing which showed up little gaps which they didn’t ablate last time so they’ll be able to do a better job next ablation. All clever stuff lol.

One of the very best feelings coming to and being in NSR after being in AF for a long time.

Glad you feel so much better, hopefully it will stay that way until you have another ablation.

What medications are yiu on? How high was your heart rate all this time? Being in contact afib since January is tough. Do you have high blood pressure also? Thank

Hi rebma , my blood pressure was ok but my heart rate varied between 72 and 150. The only meds I’m on is 50mg twice daily of flecainide and one daily of dabigatran. Oh I also take a statin once a day.

Did you heart rate vary all through the day? You must of been exhausted

Redders in reply to Rebma

Yes my heart rate did vary through the day but to be honest it only affected me in the evening, I was able to go to work and forget about it

All sounding good Redders, hope the CV holds up and that you don't have to wait too long for the ablation..... best wishes......

Had my cardioversion on Thursday & been in afib from 16 feb with heart rate between 120 to 150, I was on 10mg bisoprolol 200mg amioderone & apixiban.

After the successful cardioversion the cardiac nurse says to half the bisoprolol & keep taking the amioderone & apixiban,I was told they don't use flecanide? I said that's crazy when amioderone is so bad for you.

The question is why don't they use flecainide? people on this forum have been on flecainide for up to 20 years without issues.

That's what I told her, gave me a silly look, going to see her next Friday, will show her this post & all the rest taking flecanide.

Hi Redders has the doctor talked about magnesium when he or she prescribed Amiodarone? My EP thinks that’s a good combination. Had to get off amiodarone caused me calcium in eyes hypothyroidism and extreme numbness in fingers and legs causing a few falls. Just received pacemaker to keep my heart at a steady 60. Been in SR since last April 2017 and taking only 800mgs of magnesium and praying for no more AFIB but it’s a crap shoot

If i remember a few months ago a question on flecainide safety was raised and had loads of replies with people who had been happily taking it for up to 20 years. That's the thread you want to find. Sorry but I can't remember who started it . I may be wrong but I think it was someone new to the forum. I also remember earlier this year there was something on the web about flecainide being 20 or 25 years old and very safe.

There was a research study that someone posted the link for. It was I believe a 25 year study of Flecainide and basically perfectly safe. It was someone on this site so if they see this perhaps they will post again. I am not good with computer stuff like that. I have saved the thread she sent on my favorites, but have no idea how to put it on her. If you want to email me I am happy to send it to you. BJSRN69@aol.com

This was the article I was remembering.

It is quite complicated! (Understatement - cannot undestand a lot of it, ) but seems to suggest flecainide is safe in younger people who have no other heart issues.

Jump to the Conclusions.
