Update/Another ablation attempt

Hi all,

Feeling a little deflated. I got word that I was turned down for pace & ablate and am being taken in next Thursday for another attempt at RF ablation. My EP didnt sound at all confident and the other doctors at the mdm meeting believe I am just going to have to perservere with my symptoms. Honestly I dont know how I can cope much longer feeling as I do, sounds dramatic but I only leave the house if in a wheelchair as symptoms are so overwhelming. And at 24 Ill do anything to get my life back to normal so Ill go ahead next week and hope for the best, but if it doesnt work we have no idea what Ill do next.

Thanks for listening, Jude.

Oh Jude that's sounds awful for you. Have you had a second opinion from a top EP in the country. If not I would request one as a priority. Different medics have different ideas and expertise. Please see someone else so you can be assured of getting the very best treatment available.

There is a list of EPs on this site and some of the worlds finest in this country assuming you are in the UK. Don't give up please, there will be help out there for you. Best wishes, I feel your pain.

Before this recent news we had discussed going to London to see one of the EPs you had mentioned to me before. I think if next week doesnt go well then it does sound reasonable to ask for a referral from my current EP to one in london. Thanks for your encouragement and advice.

Also consider attending the Patients Day I. Birmingham if possible. I learned more in one day there than in the previous 6-7years.

I'm really upset for you Jude, I can understand why they don't want to take such a drastic step at your age unless they have to but it must be disappointing when you thought relief was in sight. Do you have a carer to help you? I am not in any way denying the severity of your symptoms but I am thinking that there should be help with managing them in the same way as there are pain clinics for people with intractable pain. Leaving you to 'persevere with your symptoms' on your own seems very hard.

Best wishes for the ablation anyway, let's hope it does some good 💕

Youre right I had my hopes up thinking Id found a solution to the problem. No I live with my parents so my mum helps me a lot which is great. Id be welcome to anything that would help me with the symptoms, unfortunately Ive tried all the medications they can think of here and none work for long. Thanks very much for your encouragement.

Hi Jude

How is your lifestyle? You seem to have tried the medication route so your other options are linked to weight management and exercise - there is plenty of information on this site regarding this process. Have a look and let us know what you think?

I would want to follow up all possible life-style adjustments, before having another ablation That option will still be there afterwards. (The healthier you are, the more likely the ablation is to be successful) Are you eating the best possible diet? eg very little sugar or honey, no processed food, very little red meat, lots of fruit and vegetables.

Try reading drjohnday.com for lots of information about what you can do, and it's effects. Getting AF under control is all about living the healthiest lifestyle possible. Every step you take in the right direction will help. Some people find a paleo diet helpful.

Exercise is part of this. Start by walking, with your Mum, to the nearest lamppost and back. Then, the next day, try walking to the next one, and so on. As you build up, and build your confidence, and so do more, so your health will improve. 'Snack on movement'! ie Try to avoid sitting for more than an hour at a time . . . It really does make a difference!
