I will be going through the laser treatment for Glaucoma, however I am worried about my warfarin. Dr never talked about what should do ... stop my warfarin or continue while I am under going the operation. Just wanted to know anyone done this operation before.
Many thanks

Hi there - I have had the laser treatment for glaucoma, about 7 years ago, but was not on anticoagulants back then. There is no bleeding or bruising with this treatment so may be okay, but you must contact your eye clinic to make sure that it is okay to take as normal.
I no longer take warfarin but I did for several years . During that time I had several procedures-an ablation, a pacemaker, 2 dental extractions, and a gallbladder. They all went well-warfarin-wise but I remember when I first started warfarin my electrophysiologist asked me to inform him of ANY upcoming procedures. Working with the doctor scheduling the procedure the 2 of them came up with the INR range they both felt would be safe for that particular procedure. I never had a problem with bleeding when they both were involved in deciding on the best INR level. I would involve my EP/ cardiologist whoever manages your cardiac issues. Hope this helps. irina
I had the glaucoma operation but did not have to stop warfarin. i think it's because it is not a 'bleeding' operation. Anyway check with your doc but I don't think you will have to stop warfarin because it takes some time to get back on an even keel when you restart it.
I will soon be having my eyes done and I am taking warfarin. I was told to stop taking warfarin for three days before the surgery. An excellent team at both hospitals. Colchester and Clacton.
