8 years in, post ablation

Hi All,

I'm an afib patient since 2010, and have thus far had 2 cardioversions and a cardiac catheter ablation, followed by 2 more cardioversions. The ablation was in January and the cardioversions in Feb and again early April.

Since I've been "back in NSR" my bp has started to climb through the roof. I'm waking up in the 180s over 80s. True, there are another series of stresses that are knocking me out of the ballpark. Since the last cardioversion, I only had one major afib episode - and yes, of course it felt like a heart attack - but it passed and the vacation went on.

The cardiologist who performed the ablation did tell me that an elevation in bp is normal, post ablation, but this seems to be too high an increase over a relatively short period of time, and each morning is apparently worse. I wouldn't doubt its stress related, but unfortunately I work best under stress, just don't live best that way.

I hope to learn from this community, and will share anything I have experience in as well. Thanks for allowing me to join!

Michelle

Hi Michelle, try doing some slow deep breathing when your BP is high, with me that always brings it down and it generally stays lower then. I often wonder whether not breathing correctly is one of the causes of our problems.

Best wishes

Jean

I'd recommend you search for: Dr John Bergman on YouTube and find his talk on blood pressure and cholesterol, think he made it about 5 months ago. I tried to post the link here, but it didn't work. He talks about breathing properly and how it brings your BP down.

I posted the John Bergman video a month or two ago. If you search on this site for my posts or blood pressure you should find it. A picture comes up so it should be easy to spot.

Thanks, I will do the search - unfortunately, my stress level went up through the roof in the last few weeks - sister moved in with her cat following a flood in her home, and will be in our little space for a few more months.

I'm determined to get myself walking again, but in this area, the weather is brutal this time of year - will go to a gym and back to a treadmill as soon as I'm done with early contractor meetings each day.

Thanks again for the Bergman link, will check it out!
