Which anticoagulant is best

I have been taking Pradaxa but saw a study that said Eliquis was safer so asked Doc to switch me. Now I am wishing I had not as I haven’t had any side effects with Pradaxa and there is a chance I could with Eliquis. Just wondered what others have experienced and which anticoagulant is the most popular.

The only right one is what is right for you.

That's true Bob We are all different

Bob is right. There is no 'best'. It might be interesting to know where the info that Eliquis is best came from. Sometimes it's trial and error.I had bad G.I. problems on Pradaxa some years ago. The pain was so frequent and intense I've listed Pradaxa as an allergy. But that was me. If you were doing fine on Pradaxa I would stick with it and not try to 'break in' a new med . Can you switch back and relieve the anxiety of trying an unknown med?

I just watched a video by Dr Gupta that reinforces what I had learned about Eliquis so I am switching from Pradaxa to Eliquis when I finish my current supply of Pradaxa.

There was a study (I forget what it was called) that suggested Apixaban (Eliquis) was best but the differences between the NOACS (or DOACS, if you wish) was so small it was almost negligible. It even suggested Warfarin wasn't such a bad choice! :)

Personally, I'd stick with whatever you are comfortable with.

Thank you. I just watched a video by Dr Gupta that answered most of my concerns.

Hello Flaka :-) there is a slight difference between the NOACS not so much their performance but suitability based on a patients requirements.

There is a video here by Dr Gupta which explains those little differences....

Hi Flaka :-) I am on Eliquis (Apixaban) after doing a lot of research on which AC might suit me best. I hope you get on ok with it too.

The problem is many drugs have side effects for some people but not others , it is a matter of finding the right one for you .

That said I am aware I have to take certain medications for the rest of my life so am prepared to overlook minor niggles which may or may not be attributable to any drug, they are the 'lesser evil'.

Yes, that is true and after watching a video of Dr Gupta I am going with Eliquis.

Been on it 6 months it's the safest one with the lowest bleed risk ! No issues with it or noticeable side effects !

I've been on Pradaxa with no side effects for nearly year and one-half. My EP told me last week that an antidote for Pradaxa will be coming on the market soon which will address the bleed issue.
