Should I have been given an alternative to digoxin after successful cardioversion

Hi,

Cardioversion successful yesterday but told to stop taking digoxin. I was only on apixaban and digoxin and on the digoxin for a little longer than 3 months having had problems with beta blockers and calcium blockers and now just on apixaban. Someone has suggested that I should on a beta blocker type medication as well so should I have had an alternative such as amioderone prescribed? Tried ringing the hospital today but got sent from one person to another. Phoned the number on the sheet I was given to go home (Coronary Care) and they passed me on to the Dr who performed the cardioversions secretary but she said she couldn't possibly comment and to call Coronary Care (!) So called the day unit where I had the cardioversion and they said I need to speak to the nurse who looked after me who is not in until next week! I am finding it hard and stressful to get answers.

just relax or you will maybe in the self fulfilling prophecy zone!! Amioderone is a last resort drug and your doctors may have stopped your meds as they want to see if you can remain in NSR now.

Do some steady walking in you can- I think that helps the heart to settle- don't overdo it! Keep well hydrated and relax. You could call your GP if you need more reassurance.

I was also taken off Digoxin after my CV. Apparently Digoxin helps to keep heart rate down so assuming that the CV reduced heart rate then makes sense. Good luck.

Thanks Rosy G. Doing OK at the moment. Completely forgot about this with building and garden work going on I am not stressing about it just wondering - Should have asked that's all.

Be thankful that you don't need anything else at this stage. If problems develop then you will have no alternative but to take something. But avoid amiodarone like the plague!
