Finally got it done!

I had the ablation yesterday (April 30th) after 4 years of persistent Afib. Doctor said, I had both atrial flutter and fibrillation. I've been in sinus since the ablation and feeling much better today. Back at home and resting in my own bed now. I've been eating and drinking plenty of fluid, but no urge to pee and no bowel movement. Is this normal?

Well done Glen, they normally get you to achieve both before you leave the hospital. If you haven’t I would contact the hospital just to be on the safe side.

Agree with Flapjack- might just be lack of fluid from yesterday but don't leave too long before advice. Well done on having the procedure- good luck!

As others have said do mention to the arrhythmia nurse . Now rest lots and don't worry if you have any funnies in the coming weeks..

It may not be on the website yet but out new fact sheet "Recovering from an Ablation" has recently been signed off so do check on AF Association site from time to time as this has lots of valuable information you should know.

When I search for "Recovering from Ablation" in the search field at the top right it just comes back with results for peoples' posts on here. Am I searching in the wrong place, Bob?

I have just checked and it is still not on the website. It should be under patient resources eventually on AF Association main website. I shall chase on Monday and find out what has happened. It was signed off about a fortnight ago so not sure what the delay is.

Bowels probably normal considering you've not eaten pre-procedure, probably should have had a pee by now though!

Still in NSR after a third day. Shortness of breath is getting better. A little bowel movement and able to pee today. Still 10lbs (mostly water) heavier than before procedure. Feeling better than yesterday. Thanks for your advice.

Well done for getting it done glenpointe. I hadn't thought about bowel movements and the entry point in the groin. Can it cause it to bleed, does anyone know? Having an ablation on June 18 so am counting the days and feeling mighty uneasy, but ready, if that makes sense.

For me, general anesthesia caused constipation. I took stool softener and fiber laxative. It worked wonder.
