Hi wonder if you can help?? How do people control their medication when they are on a long haul flight going through different time zones. My husband has to take warfarin at 6pm and bisoprolol each morning first thjng. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

I start the process a few days before leaving by taking medication an hour later so that by the time I’ve arrived, I’m pretty close to the new time zone. If you check back a week or so, there was a post by Cardiologist Dr Jonathan Pitts Creek about the consequences of missing and/or doubling warfarin doses which made interesting reading......have a great holiday

Hi. I travelled to Sri Lanka recently. I managed the time difference by gradually moving the time for meds while still at home an hour closer to Sri Lanka time for a couple of days. Also found it helped to keep my watch on UK time so I knew when meds would be due (used my phone for local time). A bit awkward but no missed doses while I was away so it can be done. Enjoy your trip!! Liz

Warfarin is pretty amenable. Effectively changing the time you take your dose by a few hours is not going to make much difference, unlike NOACs. I would stick to 6pm local time.

Hello Lindyloo, I am in UK and when travelling to Florida (6 hr time difference) on the day of travelling I take my morning dose as usual, when I land I take my warfarin at USA time. It takes several dayus for warfarin to adjust in the system . When I land I take at 6pm Florida time it is midnight UK time. I then carry on until I return whereby I take morning dose as usual and when in UK revert back to 6pm. I have done this several times now and has worked a treat. I have also taken medication on the plane and I take it as if I was still home, and on return as if I was still on holiday. I also keep on eye on warfarin on holiday with my own Coagucheck machine in case I start to feel unwell. I hope everything goes well with your husband on holiday and you have a great time, Regards David.

Similar to other posts... I kept watch on uk time and gradually adjusted meds to new time zone. It worked fine. Have a great holiday! 👍

Travelled to Aus and N Z and China recently. It was far too complicated to gradually adjust timings so I just took them at the time of the zone I was in. But I had the previous countries time on my phone so that I did not give myself a double dose of NOAC in particulr or have too long a gap. I was also in SR. I would have had to be far more careful if I had been in AF. But all drugs have tolerances, even the NOACs, although not as much.
