My ablation for flutter and afib went ahead yesterday. Cryo for the PVI and RF for the flutter. So far I've been in steady sinus rhythm ever since . The staff at Glenfield were all wonderful, and did their utmost to put me at ease, and keet me comfortable, throughtout my stay.
The procedure itself, with sedation and pain relief, was tolerable, although the phrenic nerve pacing caused some discomfort in my, already torn, rotator cuff.
I was a litttle concerned to find blood in my tissue when I coughed. Just a tiny amount. Told the registrar who immedaitely arranged for an xray to check for an embolism. This came back clear and the consensus is that the combination of heparin and rivaroxaban during the procedure was the root cause. Prescribed ranitidine to soothe stomach acid and, hopefully, settle the problem. Has anyone else experienced this?
Otherwise, I feel fine and obviously look so well my partner has immediately assumed he's the one who needs looking after......

Make sure that he knows you must DO NOTHING for at least a week and not much more the second. Tell him that if you do too much you will be worse off than before and he will have to do all the cooking. That should sort that out!
A great relief, waiting for another date and the uncertainly counting down to the moment I was actually in the cath lab gave too much time to think......
I'm glad I opted for both now, as one of the previously ablated pulmonary veins was sending out a rogue signal which isolated promptly when ablated. It was also good to know there was no stenosis in the pulmonary veins.
Wondeful news! I am now awaiting an appointment for ablation for AFib, as they only did the Atrial Flutter a year ago, and I still suffer all the symptoms I had before, if not more often! Good idea to have both the procedures done at the same time. Take it easy as the others have said! I hope you stay as well as you sound now!
who done your ablation, i had mine done by peter stafford, when they touched my phrenic twice heart felt like it was coming out chest, still in normal rhythm so far. good luck.
Pleased to hear you are still in normal rhythm; it seems as if we had similar proceedures for both flutter and afib.

The phrenic nerve stimulation was defititely interesting! The pulses continued up into my shoulder which is recovering from a torn superspinatus so was supersentitive to the stimulus!

I'm feeling pretty good; the main challenge is to rest; not easy as a sole carer. My partner, who had a bleed on the brain last year, picked this morning to flake out with a high temperature. The timing could not have been worse! Partacetamol has sorted his temperature but I could have done without the stress less than twenty four hours after being discharged.
Yes I'm chief cook and bottle washer in our house, I've informed my wife and son (who still at home at 35) that for 2 weeks after the op, I will be doing nowt but using the remote control!
