Just had a telecon cancelling my ablation op tomorrow for an emergency op on someone else. Understandable but so frustrating as had built myself up for it, had the pre op yesterday etc...

Let’s hope you get another call soon. You could try calling them and ask for a date......020 8725 4406 is the number.....

Rotten luck that, but if someone needs the slot more than you it's understandable.

I'm sure it won't be long until you get your turn

I know just how you feel. I made it to the hospital at 7.20 this morning, gown on and cannula inserted by 8.00; then, after waiting five hours, a nuse came to tell me my procedure had to be cancelled because a member of staf had gone home sick. Understandable but hard to bear given the build up and organisation needed for taking it easy post op. C'est la vie!

How disappointing, all set then let down. These things happen but it's not funny being all prepared then being cancelled. Its the way of things these days sadly, a system under pressure. Good luck for next time. Be well.

It's currently awful my daughter has just had her fifth appointment for an Op cancelled, and they want her to be on "standby"

But they seem to forget that her work which is with children with challenges, her partners work as a carer, her children and even the dogsitting needs planning and arranging. Taking into account the people she and her partner look after it needs to line up over 50 different people and the hospital take no account of the utter chaos they are creating.

Her Op is an overnight stay, but then two full weeks bed rest and four weeks off work, isn't a "drop of the hat" decision.

Of course emergencies come first, of course people should be risk assessed and then treated according to that assessment, but not to leave someone hanging with 24 hour notice potentially. She's been "pre-opped" no less than 7 times. Each one of which is a half day holiday.

I must admit I get angry when I see those signs saying "each missed appointment costs us £xxx (which is not statistically mathematically true by the way) as they fail to say, and each admin cock up by us costs YOU £xxx.....

Last autumn I turned up for a consultant appointment to be told, Oh we are a different region and can't see your MRI scans, no point in you being here, or the other 10 people from your next door region who have turned up today....

I can just about afford to go private, so can sort myself out, most can't.

Really don't want to be political, but these are not problems more money will solve, there are fundamental administration issues to correct.

Rant over sorry

Be well

Ian

Sorry to hear about your daughter. I worked with troubled children and know exactly what you mean in terms of organising cover, not to mention setting things up to ensure adequate rest during the recuperation phase. I'm retired now but do most things at home since my ohter half had a brain injury a year ago. The logistics of organising him, the dog, getting to hospital and preparing to convalesce were a task I'm not looking forward to repeating.

I had been at the hospital for five and a half hours before being told it was cancelled. In my case someone had gone home sick and there was no one available to replace them. I guess this means the whole team had to stand down.

I hope your daughter's op goes ahead soon and wish her a speedy recovery

So extremely disappointing for you, but fate has stepped in and said this is not the best time for you to have your ablation. Have they given you any idea when it will be?

Ian's post gives a good account of how this sort of cancelled procedure can sometimes upset well made and complicated plans we have to make to be able to give our time. Makes you want to scream!
