Does anyone know prior to day of cardioversion procedure what pre checks are made ie inr level (day before) my husband has been told it needs to be within the range of 2-4 for procedure to go ahead.

Many thanks

Hi Lindyloo. Follow your doc's instructions re taking daily coumadin as usual or not. Usually in the US they want you to take your doses as usual-not skipping any as they want you well-coagulated for the cardioversion ( as opposed to surgery where bleeding is an issue.) At any rate here (US) they will most likely do their own INR when you arrive-prior to the procedure. I do self checks so I checked mine each am for 2 days prior to be sure I was in the range they wanted. I was- so no problem but if I hadn't been I would have called and asked what they wanted me to do. But then I'm a little "OCD". All my home pre-checks probably weren't necessary. 2-4 is a fairly easy parameter to stay within if you are continuing to take coumadin as usual. But if in doubt, call and express your concern. They will advise. It's been a few years but both of mine went well. Hope your husband's does too. Take care. irina1975

Normally you need to have had an INR between 2 and 3 for at least four consecutive weeks before they will do DCCV. Do not stop taking warfarin. They will test you the day of the DCCV.
