Af ablation this morning

Went really well apparently, tried to induce the af but was stubborn but my doc said he certain he knew where the abnormal path way was. Feeling slightly better and my heart is doing flip flops but it’s expected.

How was your experience if you had an ablation and how long did it take for you to recover?

Thanks,

need to be brief, up early in the morning!! Do nothing week one and not much more week two then gradually get back to normal. No lifting and do not put any strain on the puncture points in the groin. Expect a few hiccupps as it takes 3 to 6 months for the scars in your heart to heal. Keep an eye on the puncture point and if it gets sore or inflammed, get proper medical help. Bruising might get quite bad, takes a few weeks to subside. No major exercise until more than 2 weeks have passed and then do no more than your body feels comfortable with....Nite nite, well done and let us know how you preogress

I had bouts of afib up until 10 weeks after ablation. I was put on 300 mg daily dosage of flecanaide which did help. I was having AFIB 2 to 3 times a week the first 2 to 4 weeks after ablation. Then episodes started getting less frequent and duration decreased.

I was taken off flecanaide and Apixabin 3.5 months post ablation and have been afib free for 17 weeks. It feels fantastic!

Take it easy the first few weeks, listen to your body and try to relax.

Best wishes

That’s great to hear! At the moment l I feel is my heart going fast and hard then i get a couple pvcs. Had a decent sleep last night and feeling abit better, my heart seems to be settling a little more which is good because it was all I could hear in my ears, my heart pumping so hard.

Really good to hear your afib free! Well done.

I had my one and only ablation in November 2013. It took 5 months for various arrhythmias to settle and then stop. I have been AF free since. Also, I had s higher heart rate for almost a year but again that gradually reduced.

Take things slow, be patient and good luck 🍀

Aww well done Ollie 👍🏼❤️👏🏼👏🏼 your heart will misbehave for a while , all normal. My heart was doing it for a few days and then it becomes less and less and please rest loads as this definitely helps with healing. Drink plenty of water to . My tummy was sore and I found it hard to get food down at first so eat little and chew your food to avoid wind 💨 🙈🤭soup is a good idea. Boiled water was soothing for me to ,when people say it can take at least up to 6 months for things to calm down ? That is very true for a lot of us this is not a race so you just take it easy and let your heart heal ❤️ So happy your ok and everything went well 😊

Best wishes and take it easy

Things might be bumpy but try not panic Ollie as honestly it is normal 😊 but if something does not feel right always get it checked out as for your own piece of mind . ❤️ your young so you probably will bounce back quickly 👍🏼but this is just my own opinion as I am not a doctor lol , but I would hold up on the exercise for at least 2 months 😬 I honestly think that this is were people make a big mistake and it’s to much to soon . Just my opinion on it as it’s ok to do light exercise but running and stuff I would not rush into. Be kind to your heart now as it’s just been upset and let it rest and if you feel good still just take it easy 👍🏼 I honestly think that was the best advice I got on here ❤️👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼you are very brave and I am so happy you are all done and ok 👍🏼 you just look after your self x

Will definitely hold off from exercise for a while. I’m not going to do anything that could trigger me back to AF. Thanks for your kind advice 😆

Glad it all went well for you. I have my ablation 20th March and a little nervous too. I have a wedding on the 24th, which I was planning on going too (taking it easy of course while there) but now after reading people's advice l better not and just relax. Keep us posted re: your recovery, timeframes etc. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Yeah I am definitely taking it easy. Only taking a week off work but my job isn’t strenuous at all. Wish you all the luck for your ablation, let us know how it goes :)

Good man , I hope they have hit the nail on the head! I had three months of feeling super ,then a hard time up to nine months. Everyone is different , take it easy for two weeks , then ease yourself back in to it! Please don’t expect everything to be perfect straight away, and don’t forget how many hard days you had before the ablation. All the best to you.

Everyone who has had an ablation travels down a different road post-procedure. One thing everyone shares in common is the need to be patient and allow your heart time to heal. Some people have an easier road trip than others. Mine was pretty bumpy for two and a half months post ablation but one day after an AF episode it turned out to be my last and I hope it stays that way. I had all kinds of episodes of what I thought was AF which turned out to be some other arrhythmia as my heart was doing it's best to heal. And when your heart heals and the AF stops, you will have to get used to being a person who doesn't have AF and block out the fear that maybe the nasty monster will come back. It might but I've learned there's no point worrying about it, so, you put yourself in a new headspace of enjoying waking up each morning with your heart beating normally and the sun shinning or the rain pouring down but just glad everything is ok. Every time I go for a walk I say a silent prayer or meditation or intention or whatever you want to call it that says, 'walking is the best thing for my heart and I'm taking it one day at a time.' That's all we ever have but sometimes it takes AF to make your neurons fire and a clarity of consciousness to wash over you. Be well, be good to yourself, and hug a tree.

Thanks for your advice! I really hope I don’t go back into AF but we will see...

glad to hear you are AF free, do you still get palpitations or anything like that?

I do have palpitations - some days, not a one, and other days quite a few. All in all when I do get palpitations I try to ignore them and then they disappear. Dr. Sanja Gupta (many members of this forum watch his posts) on YouTube discussed "ectopics" (palpitations) and his advise was very calming and reassuring. You can find this short video and I would suggest watching it. Take care.

I had ablation on Jan 05, they were only able to accomplish the 2 left pulmonary veins and 1/3 on the 3rd right one and bleeding developed (cardiac tamponade) so I ended up in ICU. I will say though, I bounced back pretty fast. I was back at work full time in 6 days. I avoided lifting and have had no afib or any other heart issues. I am currently taking 50 mg flecainide every 12 hours, metoprolol 50 mg every 12 hours and warfarin 5 mg daily. Everything I have ever read says to expect the healing to be lengthy, min 3 months. My afib was persistent, I was either full blown afib or non at all. I also required cardioversion to convert to NSR. So far my heart rhythm is NSR. I have a pacemaker and send in weekly reports via a device they sent me home with. Best of the best to you!!! Take it easy when you feel like you are normal, that is when you can over do it. I have to watch it myself and do a little self control.
