Best site ever for questions and possible answers on A-FIB

I stumbled across this site "Http://afibbers.org" three days ago I wish I had 18 months ago. It has the answers that My MD could not/would not answer. It is information from all over the world as an afib epidemic! What has been tried, what works, what does not and for what reasons if any. EXCELLENT reading and has put my mind at ease after reading some of the findings. I have just scratched the surface but plan on reading all the information at the site. It might take better than a month to complete but in my view well worth it..

I'm hoping this will benefit many as it has me in a very positive way!

I have mentioned ‘Afibbers’ many times on here.

It was finding that site and reading everything on it which which introduced me to magnesium and the many other supplements I’ve been taking daily for several years now.

It is an excellent site.

Pat, does magnesium supplement actually work? what is your daily intake, i.e. how mich of it?

fallingtopieces in reply to problemi

In my opinion, yes definitely.

Otherwise it’s a massive coincidence that I no longer wake in the night with a racing heart and my ectopic are now few and far between.

I take 800-1000mg of magnesium citrate every evening.

The advice I followed was to take as much as can be tolerated without needing to rush to the loo. Some people take an awful lot more than me.

I also take taurine, q10, potassium, probiotic, vit C, B complex, vit D,hawthorn, fish oil and a few others😳.

Hi are you on other medications.

I’m not on any prescribed medicine. I have been, albeit briefly. Bisoprolol daily then as a pill in pocket, then flecainide pip. I am yet to take a single flecainide tablet but I do still have some.

How long were you on bisoprolol and did you have any side effects.

I can’t remember exactly, perhaps 2-3 Months on daily Bisoprolol.

It had an effect on me straight away but I actually thought it was me and this was how I’d be now. I hadn’t realised it was all side effects.

I was then told instead to take one when my ‘palpitations’ started. (That was 6 years before the AF episode I had in 2012 was caught on an ecg, I’d never even heard of AF then)

I remember being on holiday in Sri Lanka and on a day trip to Sigiriya Rock. Our driver’s erratic driving and the roads in general were so scary I began a bout of ‘ectopics’. I took a single Bisoprolol on the journey there (as directed) and subsequently couldn’t walk up Sigiriya rock, which I should have had absolutely no problem with. So had to sit at the bottom and wait with the disabled and elderly.

(I’d not long had a Bruce protocol treadmill stress test and lasted almost 10 minutes)

My stress test was fine. Heart muscle strong. If it's caused by extra node going nowhere, it is not picked up easily. 30 day multileads monitor alone will pick it up. I was told it's usually found on autopsy.

jb67 don: Back in Aug 2016 when I was first found to have afib they wanted to install a pacemaker. I told them NOOOOOO. after 2 days in the hospital (due to kidney stone attack) my pulse calmed down and was some what normal. left hosp, went to cardiologist he suggested immediate start of blood thinners. I started on Warfin sp. after 30 days I could NOT tolerate it. ( it made me NOT me! i could not think straight had ZERO desire to do anything etc.) i was the put on communtin sp. there was a glitch in getting the new script. so I was off all thinners for 3 weeks. when I started the communtin sp. I had the same but not as bad effects as the Warfin. ON Jan 1 st. 2017 I sent my cardiologist a memo stating that I made the decision to go cold turkey and stop all blood thinners! Best decision I have made concerning Afib. At this time I started "Earthing/grounding" myself for 30 minutes a day each morning.

I also have a "Kardia" unit put out by alivecor.com that I use to log my EKG 1-2 times a day. when I first got it all of the "P" waves were missing and I had pauses of 1.8 sec between pulses in the 30 sec test window I would have 2-3 of these. Its been a year now and about 1/2 of my EKG waveforms show very distinct P" waves prior to the QRS pulse. I no longer have 1.8 sec delays the longest is 1.1 sec and this might show up on every 5-6 reading (a weeks worth)

in reply to problemi

YES! I suggest researching magnesium and how important it is for our bodies especially the heart and how so often its importance is not passed onto us by our caregivers. In my opinion, there is another problem in trying to meet the body's needs through diet alone. There are many good food sources for magnesium. But my personal opinion is that for the most part numbers are not up to date. Soil depletion has taken a toll on many nutrients older generations were able to get from food but with GMO foods, overworked soil, processing, chemicals and additives I feel it's not always easy to know what you're eating and what you are missing.

I've used afibbers in the past. It was a very good source of information. However I have to caution that some on the bulletin board are very pro supplements. I spent a lot of money on probably a dozen supplements over the years, but none worked to stop my afib.

However it did introduce me to Vit K2, which has worked wonderfully with warfarin to stabilise my INR, so I'm grateful for that. The regular newsletters were also quite good, though they've become very irregular now. The information sheets are useful. I'd just take the bulletin board with a pinch of salt, I believe this one is much better and more accurate.

Hi Mark. May I ask, are you also on beta blockers, or some other medication, in addition to the supplement? I ask because I'm very new to this situation (received diagnosis this past Monday, it's now Thursday)...I was put on Lopressor this week (or Metoprolol, as it's called) and it's a huge improvement on how I felt when I was "in the dark". Just wondering how many people are also on "official" meds in addition to supplements.

Thanks!

Hi afafaf, the only drug I'm on now is warfarin. I had an ablation that was successful. I've never been on metropol though I have been on diltiazem and sotalol in the past.

afafaf in reply to MarkS

Thanks for that. I'm 52 and feeling like an ablation is the way forward. I can't imagine taking beta blockers for the rest of my life at this age.

in reply to MarkS

The same with me. After an ablation and pacemaker was able to come off all cardiac drugs except warfarin and on Mon Jan 15, 2018 had a Watchman procedure to be able to eventually stop the warfarin. This was my request, am doing fine, not for everyone but will be happy to let go of blood thinners.

With regards supplements, we must advise that you discuss these with your doctor as there may be interactions with other medications.

Frankly, I think we are already on the best site ever for questions and possible answers for AFib.

I agree with Finvola :-) this is the best site I have come across for Afibbrs.

The site 'olnick' mentions is I think based in the USA, I prefer one which is based here where I understand the health system .

in reply to doodle68

This is also my favorite site though I do check out others from time to time. I live in the US and feel it helps me to know what else is happening with afib tx and research around the world. We (the US) are not the only game in town. This site is the only one I post on.

hock217 in reply to

I'm in U.S. also. SVT though not A FIB

in reply to hock217

I hope you can avoid A FIB but please seek help sooner than later. Your treatment will most likely differ from mine but it does need to start soon. I am still doing well and I hope you are soon on your path to feeling well. With the right cardiac treatment plan in place it's possible to live well, feel well and enjoy our lives. In the beginning it can be frustrating as finding what works best for us is often trial and error as we are all different. But you will get there. If you find doctors who you don't feel are helping you don't be afraid to move on. We are the customers, doctors work for us, and we are 50% of our treatment planning. A good thing I found about this site is the information helps me find the knowledge I need to ask the right questions and often helps me know if my doctors are providing the best answers. Take care. irina

Hi olnick , you say...

''I stumbled across this site ********** three days ago'' ...then you proceed to promote another site in your one and only post.

Did you happen to stumble across 'Healthunlocked' too and if so if the other site is 'the best ever' why were you looking.

I just tried to register for that site but I got fed up with following their instructions and not being able to log in. They activated me but then nothing!!! I'll stick here I think -I've learnt such a lot and have also enjoyed the lighter moments. Also I would never have heard of Dr Sanjay Gupta either!

in reply to 7Helena

I did not bother to sign up, I just bookmarked the webpage get to the home page and do any searching from there.
