CRT-D fall and Recovery.

I have had my CRT-D device fitted almost 4 weeks now. Everything is going well, no issues with the pherenic Nerve and no rejection issues. Wound has healed nicely and I have started to use my left arm a bit more.

Yesterday, I tripped over my own feet and hit the concrete path like a sack of spuds. I must of hit something on the way down because there was pain on the left hand side of my chest, about 8 inches from the CRT wound site. Not heart pain, more bone pain.

My first thought was that I was glad I was on my own otherwise that would have been embarrassing and my second thought was about the CRT-D Leads and the fragile hold they may have had in my heart. I sat there for 10 minutes just getting my breath back and then stood up. It was then I realised I must have bruised my rib and once inside I got inside the house I noticed had swollen up with quite an impressive lump.

24 hours on I am still stiff but I think the leads are OK. I have a visit to the Hospital Pacemaker clinic next week so I will get them to check it out. I suspect that these leads are tougher than I thought and now I off to practice my tuck and roll technique!

Try not to fall on concrete holding an infant .....esp. one of 2 stone in weight .I did that. Infant was fine but not its grandma. Two extra stone added to mine caused more than a little bother !

Really feel for you. I am an experienced faller looking back and still hate it. Hope you are reassured by visit to hospital but seek advice sooner if you are concerned. Trust the bruising improves soon and you are not sore for too long.

Oh dear. If you are on anti coags please goto A & e and tell them you are on anti coags and had a fall. Let them examine you. They can xray to see if wires ok.

A few weeks after my pacemaker was fitted I got up from my desk and tripped over the lead from my mouse. I automatically put my left arm out and caught hold of the back of an armchair and just about pulled my arm out of its socket. My first though was for the pacemaker leads but they were OK.
