Hello Heartbeat :-) I was prescribed the beta blocker Nebivolol (AKA Nebilet, Bystolic) because I have asthma and it is usually better tolerated by those with chest conditions.

I don't seem to have any side effects other than experiencing headaches when I started take it which may or may not be attributable to the drug (or a combination of medication).

Nebivolol costs a few pence more than bisoprolol which may be why it is less often prescribed and it seems to work for me in keeping my blood pressure and heart rate in check .

Remember what suits one person may not suit another but it is worth trying a different medication if you have side effects.

There is a list of beta blockers approved for the treatment of AF on the NICE guidance for AF website .

I was on bisoprolol , put me to sleep in 40 mins aching arms and upper body when I awoke. Major HR limitations I could not run. Swapped bisoprolol for another beta blocker. Better but still very tired cold not keep my eyes open after 4, or 5 hours. Did a month on this and then swapped to a calcium channels blocker ( verapamil) not perfect but a lot better. Last time I was in hospital I was labelled as 'allergic' to beta blockers

I really wish I knew the answer to this! I requested a change from 2.5mg bisoprolol because of the overwhelming fatigue and muscle weakness and pain etc. I've been on 25mg Atenolol for a couple of months now with no positive change. Good luck in finding a good alternative. I am going to look into verapamil as mentioned by KMRobbo.

Keep well
