Totally freaked out with having AF for 2 weeks... hopefully it was excess alcohol over 5 weeks (And maybe longer if I'm totally honest)... scared the s*** out of me.. I really, REALLY admire anyone who has it long term.. I'm hoping it was high BP causing it... I await further tests.. but I hope I'll dodge this..

I hope it was just the alcohol, keep us updated. I gave up drinking wine 🍷 it was a trigger for me.

Good title on your post! Treat this as an early warning and use it tomake whatever lifestyle changes you think are necessary - the AFA website has lots of information and downloadable leaflets.

Best wishes

Alcohol will certainly trigger it, especially binge drinking. Not something you want to a acquire if you can help it so I do hope it has given you a scare and that you can now adjust your lifestyle.

I still have a drink occasionally and the cardiologists say that a little drink i.e.- one small glass of wine is OK but good to stop at one glass - if you can as once you have a propensity for AF it will return if you mistreat your body. (Said from experience).

If it wasn't for AF coming along and interrupting my excessive drinking of red wine, I think I may have had worse problems further down the line. I still drink, but in moderation now, and I rarely touch red wine.

Sballseta :-) I think AF has been a salutary reminder to many of us that we need to take care of our bodies if we want them last.

I loved wine and living alone once a bottle was open it seemed a shame to let it get stale and while I didn't drink excessively it was still more than was good for me.

Since the AF episodes increased in frequency and severity and I got a formal diagnosis I have changed many things in my lifestyle including cutting out alcohol and almost becoming a vegetarian. Amazingly I don't miss anything I used to consume and have grown to love my new way of eating. I certainly feel more healthy.

Without AF I wouldn't have been prompted to make these changes .
