Hi everyone I wonder if somebody has had a similar situation.after being in afib for a year I had my second cardioverdion which was successful after being prescribed amiodrone. As this drug has very serious side effects I was told to stop about a month ago.Laying down yesterday I felt my heart rate race up and when I checked my pulse it was around 195bpm it was so Eratic going from 65-195 and the machine had trouble reading it.I felt very bad light headed and a very weird feeling in my chest my hands felt light and tingly and it scared me a lot. This went on for several hours.I assume my heart has gone back into afib but it felt like I was having an attack.I feel ok ATM but had a pounding heart in the night.Should I go back on digoxin now ATM I take 2 bispoprolol a day 2 apaxiban 1 ramipril of a night I probably should have gone to hospital when it occurred but I was just to scared please any hello would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Danny, unfortunately we can't advise you on the best medication to take as we are not medically trained.

Reading what your AF experience was like, I think you need to have a chat with your GP. Did Digoxin keep your heart in rhythm when you were taking it? I can understand completely why you wanted to come off of Amiodarone.

You are aware, I hope, that for a lot of us with AF it's not good to sleep on your left hand side or you risk starting your AF.

Jean

Hi jean thanks for your reply I am waiting for the dr to call me regarding medication.Digoxin I was taking when I was in afib but it was amiodrone that kept my heart rate right down in the 50-60bpm.And yes last night laying on my left side my heart did start pounding again but couldn't feel as much on my right side thanks jean !

This sounds a classic AF event Danny and obviously the treatment you are on is not working. I'm sure that you understand that cardioversion is not a cure for AF but the good news is that you can maintain sinus rhythm so that helps decisions about future treatment.

We can't advise on drugs I'm afraid so your best move now is to see your doctor and get in front of a rhythm specialist like an EP (electrophyiolgist) as you sound like a good candidate for ablation.

If you haven't already please go to AF Association main website and educate yourself about this mongrel condition so that you have the knowledge to engage with the doctors rather be a customer.

Hi Bob,

THank so much for the advice I think it was a classic af event. Was just very spectacular in the sense of how quickly and suddenly it happened and how bad I felt.I am waiting to see my cardiologist regarding ablation.Yes unfortunately

the cardio version was not a cure but I did have atleast some rest bite. Thanks again bob really appreciate.
