Has anyone on the forum had this done and did you have to stop anticoagulant? I am having it done on Tuesday and I have tried ringing the centre where I am having it done numerous times but they are not answering. I left a message asking this question but they haven't got back to me, I will try ringing again tomorrow but I have a feeling they are not answering the phone. Thanks for any help, Heather

I had a gastroscopy 4 weeks ago....camera down throat plus biopsies...I am on warfarin and did not have to stop. Just had to make sure i was mid range.

( As a result I am having same again but as an extra I'm having argon gas ,heated and blasted towards the leaking blood vessels in my stomach. Really looking forward to that.😞 Now for that I have to stop warfarin for 4 days and I find that worrying)

I would keep trying to get an answer. Try the consultants secretary.

Sandra

As Yatsura says, you need to keep trying to get a definitive answer, might be worth trying early when they are supping coffee!!! It might be worth contacting your local Arrythmia nurse if you have one or an INR nurse if your surgery has one.....good luck for Tuesday, John

Thanks for replies, yes I intend ringing early tomorrow morning as what I don't want is to go on Tuesday and then be told they can't do it. I don't have an Arrythmia nurse. Tried to find Consultants secretary's number on line but can't find that either, I only got appointment today so don't have much time, only tomorrow.

I know you shouldn't have to, but is the hospital close enough to call in. It would be difficult to ignore you then!! If the day case unit don't know, try the cardiology team......

I had the exact same problem when I took a cancellation for a colonoscopy. I didnt get the usual information as There was only 2 days between phone call and procedure. No one at the hospital could give me an answer and my GP said she was not qualified to give me a defintive answer. In the end I looked in the NICE guidelines for apixaban and minimally invasive procedures and it said to miss one dose so that is what I did and they seemed happy with that and went ahead with the procedure. It was all very far from ideal.

I agree with Flapjack that going into the hospital would be a good idea. Good luck. X

Yes, good idea it is not a hospital but a medical centre and it is 30 minutes away, if I can't get through in the morning I will go in the afternoon, thank you. By the way John no problems in Alvor, back in 5 weeks and booked for next sunmmer, Heather

I had an endoscopy a few weeks ago and did not have to stop my anticoaglation. I did ring and ask first and that was my instruction. Keep persisting with your calls. Can you ask your GP to find out for you if your calls fail to be answered.

If you ring hospital switch board ( yes in spite of automation there is a person lurking.) They will put you through. Otherwise try radiology dept as they won't want their time wasted. Failing that ring PALS ( patient advice and liaison service) that would probably be at hosp where chappie doing the endoscopy is based and they could chase it for you
