I have my prescription of 5mg daily. I accidentally took 2 doses of that. What to do?

Nothing. Miss tomorrow's dose and then carry on as normal other than get an extra INR test done in a few days. You won't die honest. Just be careful not to bang your head for a couple of days.

Thanks for this. Should I get an appointment. My INR stays between 2 and 3 even on this high dose

Dose is irrelevant. It is the way your body metabolises warfarin. Some are on 15 mg + for the same INR. I doubt it will shoot up at all but just ring through and get a test organised for a few days time to satisfy yourself. really.

Thanks for your assistance. I was literally thinking that I'll get brain hemorrhage. lol

Just don't go head banging tonight , race your motorbike without a helmet and NO BMXing. Even if your INR went up to 5 there is little extra risk . Remember many people with stents or mechanical valves have a range of 3.5 -4 .

I actually don't have mechanical valves. I had bypass in 2013 since then I'm prescribed Warfarin with Clopilet.

in reply to hrshlol

Think Bob was meaning people do have higher INR for example people with mechanical valves

Yes that is what I mean. 2 to 3 is normal for AF but some conditions require higher INR.

If you are worried you could ring 111 assuming you are in the UK, see what they say in order to put your mind at rest.

Eh I was uselessly panicking. No signs of internal/external bleeding has shown up. I'm feeling normal, I've check my previous INR reports, even on high doses of 6-8mg my INR was around 3, but the target is 4.5 and 5. I'm getting a test tomorrow tho.

Awesome 👍

This forum provides great support as we learn about our own condition.

Yes, I've read like tons of articles about overdosing warfarin and that's why I got anxious. I think I have to be more responsible to deal with such sensitive drug.

If my INR test is high, I have liver and broccoli and cauliflower for tea. One of my favourites but I tend not to eat it very often as it lowers my INR.

well, if it was me I wouldn't take the next dose but wouldn't hurt for you to ring your surgery to put your mind at rest

One advantage of warfarin is that its effects are quite slow. So variations on a daily basis make relatively little difference.

For instance I once did an experiment when I had spare Coaguchek test strips that were about to go out of date. I deliberately missed a dose one day. My INR went from 2.5 to 2.2. Then the next day I doubled my dose and my INR went up to 2.5 again.

Of course it would be very dangerous to have done that if I had been on NOACs.

When I was on warf (now Edoxaban) I mistakenly took 2 8mg doses about a hour apart, so I missed the next day, took 5mg the next day, 7mg the next and then back on 8mg. My INR was due 6 days later and was normal readings!
