Is aspirin bad for AF and does stress cause AF?

I was put on a baby aspirin regiment and a low does of Metroplol when i was first diagnosed with mild AF. But now I'm told to take both only as needed. I've heard mixed reviews and was courious to know others opinions about it. Has anyone experience AF episodes when stressed. Sometimes I can't tell when I'm overwhelmed at work or if the weird feelings in my chest are just stress related or AF symptoms.

Baby aspirin, taken daily, upset my stomach. It can cause bleeding. And did you realize that it has no antidote?

Thank you Jenny dog. I have notice that it makes me bruise easily. I'm glad to here that stress is a tigger because I can try to prevent some of my stresses.

Stress is often a trigger for AF but never could be classed as a cause. You have AF so you will have AF whatever may or may not trigger it.

Aspirin has not been recommended for stroke prevention in AF now since 2014 as finally the powers that be recognised that it is not effective . In fact there is more chance of internal bleeding on aspirin than on most anticoagulants whilst aspirin is not an anticoagulant and of no significant value as a prophylactic against stroke. Unless you had other cardiac issues which suggested the use of anti-platelet drugs such as aspirin one must question why you were on it to start with.

Since all treatment for AF is only about improving quality of life one must question the use of drugs which do not do that whilst possibly giving unwanted side effects so it sounds like a win win situation all round.

Thank you for the information. I was told by my cardiologist that AF patients are likely to have strokes and that was her preventive program for me. But on my next visit I will question her about it. I get so confused because when I failed the Lexi scan test, I was told that I had atrial flutter. So the prevention treatment was to be on a daily aspirin regiment along with beta blocker tablets. Do you if an EP study can determine what type of arrhythmia a person has? Reason why I ask is because my EP doctor will do one on the day of my ablation on July 27th. Prior to seeing him, I was told I had SVT and atrial flutter. Can a person have both or just one of the other? My EP doctor didn't say which one I had and suggested to do the study and he advised me to stop taking aspirin and Metroplol but only take it when I have an episode.

You can have a lot of different arrhythmias along side each other.

Over a year with no adverse events. Stress and cold drinks are my trigger,have been in AF a lot lately as my husband has pulmonary fibrosis,there's no treatment for it!
