Abalation or not ?

Hi .. I have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with no known triggers . Had an episode 2 days ago with the previous attack being 14 months ago although I regularly have episodes of ectopic beats. The last two attacks have also resulted in raised troponin levels although no evidence heart attack. My cardiologist suggests an assessment by an EP with the view to an abalation procedure. I wonder if an abalation would be beneficial as my episodes are so infrequent albeit I worry about the raised troponin levels. I am on bisoprolol 2.5 mg which results in sinus bradycardia (42-55 bpm) which my cardiologist says is fine. I also take 5mg Apixaban 2 daily.

See the EP and rule nothing out. These are the real experts in arrhythmias and you may be surprised at what comes out of an appointment. Also read all you can from our AF Association website so you are well informed when you have the meeting.

Bob, what exactly is an E P, heard it mentioned quite a lot, will they take time to listen to you which is what I need as being newly diagnosed with P AF ,

Hi an EP is an electrocardiophysiologist who studied the electrical system of the heart

I wouldn't rule it out either. I was dead set against it. Then had appointment with EP. He was great at explaining, drawing diagrams, etc. My husband was with me as well. I would reccommend a significant other with you so you can digest it together. Also, did you use a 30 day monitor? I believe those tracings should have an impact on how often you are in afib bc some people are unaware if they are in a fib.

I worried about the heart molding from afib. It's not invasive which is a huge plus for me.

Thank you good advice about significant other . Waiting to have a holter fitted not sure how long for .
