I have now been taking Warfarin for 2. weeks and over the last few days my scalp has become very itchy. Has anyone else experienced this...Iam worried that it may be an indicator of future hair loss.

I've been on warfarin for 7 years. Yes, to itchy scalp, no to hair loss. I still visit a barber regularly every 6 weeks or so, so regrowth seems not to be a problem either.

Yes itchy scalp - mostly when I first get up. I have lost a lot of my very thick hair but I would rather lose hair than not be covered by the warfarin.

Find the best shampoo for you and hope they don't change to "new and improved" too often!

Hi, I have been on Warfarin for a couple of years and quite regularly have an itchy scalp. Don't think my hair is as thick as it used to be but perhaps age related rather than the Warfarin. One or the other

Give it some time and may settle down. You could ask to be put on one of the newer anticoagulants. I have moved from warfarin to apixaban. I had no problems with warfarin but find apixaban less hassle as no testing and can be more flexible with food.

Speaking somewhat tongue-in-cheek ... have you washed your hair lately? It's easy to forget stuff like that when you're caught up in more serious concerns.

I wash it daily ...always have!

I had an itchy scalp before starting warfarin. I use the oilatum intensive which is very good for itchy scalps but only max 2x p.w. and leave on for about 5 mins.

Hi, I have had an itchy scalp for several years and had never associated it with any of my prescription drugs. Many visits to doctor and many different potions, shampoos etc., still has not helped. I decided about a month ago to stop using all of them, I think they were quite harsh and aggravating the problem rather than helping. It has not disappeared but halved. Thank goodness. But still not solved the problem - I have noted you use oilatum intensive, so will give that a try.

I recently heard through the news that we should try not to use beauty treatments that contain liquid paraffin as it is flammable. This came after a chap used - I think prescription - moisture cream on his face and decided to have a cigarette. His face caught fire immediately. Once reported scores of other people came forward - as happens - to report the same.

I know it is a difficult decision to make when particular treatments actually work. Maybe forewarned is enough to state 'be careful'.

Sorry if this is a little 'sensationalist' but it was a recent news item.

I also had an itchy scalp when on warfarin, but it was inconsistent, maybe due to warfarin dose changes. Switched to Eliquis 2 weeks ago; haven't noticed any itching.

Also thought that my hair was thinner when taking warfarin. When asked the docs about it, it was always a "maybe" or "could be" but "not real common."
