Ablation date at last

Just received the phone call saying that I'm booked in for my ablation on Wednesday 9th November, (pre-assessmen) on Monday 7th November.

I now realise what others on the forum feel, when the nerves kick in. It now feels real.

I know I will be ok and all the rest, but it's a daunting feeling

I'm in for mine next week, the nerves are shredded to say the least

This will be my first, and having read all the comments, which do help you have a much better understanding of the procedure, I thought I'd be fine. I'm become really nervous and that's not like me, I usually take things as they come, but this feels different.

This is my first also, at 6,4 and 17 stone you wouldn't think I'm a nervous wreck but I've even been to the point of ringing up and cancelling,

The logistics of it all are a nightmare - the journey, the parking, the unknown.

I promise you that the actual ablation is not that bad. As Bob says dental ( root canal ) treatment is worse.

What did my pre-op involve? BP, INR. Abdomen was felt and there was a quick glance to check if shaving would be necessary. ( it wasn't )

Then on to a different lady to be weighed, height measured and a swab of the top of my leg with a thing like a cotton wool bud to check for pathogenic bacteria.

I hope that this is helpful.

Best wishes to all on this thread.

On my letter it says to allow up to 5 hours as I need to have all the above as you mentioned an ECG and possibly a TOE.

I didn't have a TOE and I asked about it after my ablation. The Registrar said I didn't have one as I already had a tube inserted for the General anaethetic.

My pre-op appointment took about an hour.

I gather different EPs/hospitals do things differently, so I'll have to wait and see what happens.

Thanks for your replies.

I agree a root canal is far more daunting.... I had mine in Feb this year and it's possible I may need another .... Will be much more relaxed second time around. Needle in back of hand is the worst and that's just a scratch that lasts 2 seconds. Good luck and keep us informed
