Hello, I would like to hear from anyone that has had 2 ablations and is still in AF. I only had my second ablation on the 30/7-16 but am back in AF

My 2nd ablation worked but just wanted to say Hi. I know there are several people here who have had 2 or more ablations and are still in AF so I am sure they will make themselves known to you.

Any specific questions you will usually find someone with either similar experience or can offer possible suggestions.

While your date looks like the end of July to me, and maybe you mean the end of June, I will speak on that assumption. I have a friend who had her 2nd ablation last week and over the weekend went back into AF. It is not unusual to go back into AF during that 3-6 month blanking period while the heart heals. It has had an assault by either burning or freezing and it takes a while to heal. Don't panic, it doesn't mean that it didn't work. You may need some rhythm meds and a cardioversion to get back, but there is still lots of reason to be hopeful. Give yourself gentle recovery time.

Thank you SRMGrandma, your message is most encouraging. I have just gone back on my 50mg flacainide twice daily plus half a 2mg diazepam.

Sounds good. Sometimes the EP also adds a magnesium supplement to help. You may want to ask about that too. Keep us posted and take good care of yourself

Hi Redders and welcome. If as I suspect you mean 30th June (and on a world wide forum best to date that way to avoid confusion) then it is far too early to even think about if it has worked or not. It will be at least three if not six months before the heart settles down and you may well have some funnies in that time. It may not be AF but a different arrhythmia such as atrial tachycardia. I had this and had to be cardioverted. I had thee ablations before my AF was terminated but did manage about 8 moths free after the second but again had to be cardioverted because of a tach. Call your arrhythmia nurse if you are worried or if you don;t have a contact then your EP's secretary.

Thank you so much for your reply Bobd. Yes I did mean 30th June sorry. I have spoken to the surgeon that did my ablation and he has said for me to go back on 50mg of flacainide twice daily. I also took half a 2mg of diazepam and feel much better at the moment. I thought you could only have 2 ablations and then it was a pacemaker !!

Hi Redders I had 2 ablations and it took 9 months for things to settle down after ablation no. 2 so it's still very very early days for you yet. I also continued on Flec for at least 6-9 months before coming off all drugs. Keep going it's a roller coaster but worth the ride!

Yes, I have had two ablations and still have symptoms of premature ventricular contractions and rapid heavy heart beats. I am on 150mg of flecinate and aspirin. I take high dose of magnisium and potassium and hawthorn berry and coq10 for my heart. I am trying to get thin, the thinner you are the easier it is on your heart. Ideally I would like my heart to work better but I do not know if another ablation will help or make it worse, waiting to find a good doctor that will help me. On a scale of one to ten ten being normal, I feel like a 3, I would love to feel like a 7. It is a heavy cross but it has brought me close to our good God!

Hi Redders, you're very early days yet and I think these things are to be expected. Am I correct in thinking you didn't experience early bouts of AF after your first ablation? One thing the arrhythmia nurse told me prior to my second ablation was no two procedures and the outcome are the same. Just because I didn't have any issues after the first procedure, it didn't mean the second would be plain sailing.

After my first ablation I went 7 weeks before I had any AF repercussions. I then had intermittent AF, but nothing that my medication didn't sort out after a short while. I discussed this with my EP and he suggested a second procedure would be the best option.

I had my second ablation 8 weeks ago. After two weeks I had several episodes of AF. I'm on a research program at the moment, so have access to an EP who is running the project. I saw him not long after having these episodes and he said anything in the first two months they class as a "Blanking Period". The past 6 weeks have been fantastic and AF free, I'm off medication (Still on an warfarin). However, I had a recent episode that came out of the blue and I had to take 2 x 100mg of Flecainide as a Pill in the Pocket, which put me back in NSR.

I'm a little disappointed and hope this is just a little blip, but time will tell.

Try not to worry too much. Give the arrhythmia nurse a call or the ward where you had your procedure and ask them. All our recoveries will be different, but they can at least try to put your mind at rest.

Hello i have had 3 ablations. The last one was in December 2015. Since that time i have been AF free. I still take my medication. I am 73. Fingers crossed.

Glad to hear you're AF free. I'm AF free at the moment but it's only been 11 days since my 2nd ablation so yes fingers cross for both of us. I'm 71.
