Nothing like a episode of AF to reinforce the decision to have an ablation done.

My ablation is 2 weeks away, I've not had any AF for a month and have started to think should I be getting this done. Then out of the blue this morning AF hits with force! It's a 100% yes at this moment in time!

It's a great incentive when this happens! I've had long waits for ablations and the deterioration in the weeks beforehand helped to make me feel absolutely sure it was the way forward.

Well the answer is now yes. Get it done why you are still paroxsymal be causes tha chances drop quite significantly if you slip into persistent AF.

I decided that an ablation was the way forward for me because AF made me feel so rotten, I never knew when it would start so I had become unreliable. I didn't want to make plans and I was becoming progressively more introverted and anxious. If the ablation was unsuccessful then I would always know that I had given it my best shot - so no regrets.

Remember that Bob correctly stated that dental root filling was worse AND it can't be that bad when some people have 2 or more (willingly ) For me, the worst part of the whole thing was getting to the hospital as it's a nightmare to access.

I always remember when first invited to have an ablation thinking how risky it seemed and turning down the chance. My consultant smiled knowingly and just said, "well call me when you change your mind" When note not if. Six months later I was begging him and went on to have three in all before finally saying goodbye to AF.

Whilst waiting for my ablation I had a long episode of af the week before and then a short one the night before. It was a timely reminder why I was having it done! Had mine 6 weeks ago today and am feeling good, no regrets at all. Very best wishes.

Thanks for all the comments, I know it's the right thing to get it done, a day in the hospital and a few weeks to recover should all be worth it hopefully! My AF is going full force this morning, if someone said lets get the ablation done today I would!

Correction Steve......I said no drugs after my ablation for years, but I have had to stay anti-coagulated throughout.

I guess it's better to stay on warfarin to be on the safe side, my EP said I probably won't stay on it if it's successful. My chads2 score is 0 because of my age (36) and no other heart troubles or high blood pressure.

Just coming up to my first anniversary (8th June). AF free year - not a beat out of sync since, that I have ever noticed. Hopefully, many more ahead - for all of us ablated ones. Good decision? The best!

Given your age as well it seems to me particularly important to go down the ablation route if you can. At twice your age I've had 2 ablations in the last year and I don't regret either if it gives me a few more years without PAF. I wish I had had an ablation earlier - I was diagnosed with PAF six years ago.

I felt like you too Steve ,if I even had a day without AF, but hey I had an ablation nearly 8 weeks ago and everything crossed, no AF so far. It's a like a dream, so much better quality of life!
