Seven day heart monitor

Hello, it's been six months since my second ablation procedure. Six months after my first ablation I had a seven day heart monitor fitted, but this time round I've not heard anything. Does anyone know if it is standard practice to have a monitor fitted at six months?

Short answer is no. Unless you were completely unaware of your arrhythmia when in AF and episodes could only be picked up by the use of the holter, I can't really see the point of it after an ablation. Hopefully you will continue AF free and only if that changes would they need to monitor your ECG - I would have thought.

I didn't have one but it makes sense to me, i.e. to see if they got everything. You can't always feel AF, I have had symptomatic and asymptomatic. If you haven't heard anything, then ring your cardios secretary and ask for the results.

I have had a moniter implant for 2.5 yrs. I have it read every 4 months. Episodes show on the reading every time I go. Some as high as 74 episodes. I have no faith in the hospital at all. I am taking 80mg Bisporol every day.

Hi Swale,

After my ablation at Guys and St Thomas's I was told I would have a 24 hr monitor 2 months later and see my EP again a month after that. After watching the post for 4 months I phoned the hospital. Was told my appointment was for 2 months earlier ( as I had expected ) and I was down as DNA (did not attend). Told to ring EP's secretary who said I was the second person that morning to say they hadn't received the appointment letter!

Phone now and check. 24 hr monitor was standard procedure there.

I am still going back to the EP every six months and each time I have a 24 hr monitor and had 48 hr monitor on one occasion.

My ablation was almost two years ago.
