Hi Jimmy,

You'll find a load of posts about travel insurance on the forum, but it's worth starting with the section on the AFA website:

As regards holiday cover, I use allcleartravel.co.uk/, I also have PAF and have used this company for the last few years. Quite straight forward and can be done online. Hope this helps.

Hi, Ive just got insurance from www, holidaysafe.co.uk which includes

cover for my af at very reasonable rate.

I'm insured with SAGA for travel with AF. I went with them because my father in law had a big claim a few years on holiday and they dealt without any problems. Not cheap though, £300 for annual Europe cover for two of us (mid 60's).

This is an interesting question, which I think I think I can help with part of the problem with AF, with my recent travel experiences.

Due to the late diagnosis of AF last November 9 days before climbing on a plane to Australia, I promised my GP to have regular checkups while away for the winter which are hard to get covered under travel insurance and medical visits are not cheap!

My daughter in Australia come up with the solution – A Medicare Card - humanservices.gov.au/custom...

As a result of this and a bit more surfing the internet I now also have a – European Health Insurance Card - nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcar... - For use in the EU.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies.......I have got a EHIC so that box ticked and just had a quote of £ 17 for a single trip on oktotravelinsurance. Thanks

Hi just remember EHIC cards do not cover all medical expenses for example if you took Ill and were transported to a private hospital you would be liable for all costs! I dont think repatriation or cancellation is covered either so keep your ok to travel insurance which should cover these costs and enjoy your holiday.

Regarding your Life Assurance there should be no problem if the policy was effected prior to any knowledge of your condition. Your policy should remain valid for it's entire period whether 'Whole of Life' or for a set term. The Insurer is not entitled to increase your premium or the terms of the policy as their original terms were based on your life risks as they existed at the outset of the policy and, as such remain contracted for the term of the policy. This assumes you have complied with all policy conditions.

The latter sentence would relate to such conditions as payment of due premiums and any restrictions or exclusions relating to life-style, occupation or recreational activities; e.g. engaging in dangerous sports or activities. In any event, seek confirmation from your insurer.

I have permanent AF but have not asked my travel insurer to include this under my policy as they would charge an additional premium. I consider the chances of my AF causing me to seek medical attention and thus make a claim under a travel insurance policy to be extremely remote.

Thats extremely helpful thanks

Mycallc.....re your last paragraph..I think you may be a little foolhardy by not declaring your AF. Should you have to make a claim for another condition the insurers would look at your entire medical history and would be looking for any excuse not to pay out. Fact. Sandra

I agree you may as well set fire to your money as not declare a condition as you won't be covered for anything, unless you get a policy that states it will cover but not for pre existing conditions.

Sandra, I have declared my AF but just not taken up the option to include this under my policy. It's not a problem.

Insurers cannot use 'excuses' to decline valid claims under the terms of the contract. They can only use the policy conditions and non-compliance with these to turn down a claim. The FCA and ombudsman ensure customers are treated fairly.

I have persistent AF and was diagnosed 18 months ago after a stroke on holiday . Thank god I was insured , no previous conditions , just out of the blue . My hospital bill came to over 100,000 U.S. Dollars , I'm still claiming for my personal expenses . So you never know what you are getting till you need it ! My worldwide ins is now £400 pa . Your life ins is not affected if you took it out before you had the condition .
