Hi Abihel,

I'm sure there are a lot of posts about digoxin, but I posted this one:

"Digoxin: The Medicine from Hell?"

afibbers.org/resources/digo...

Also this one previously:

"Increased Mortality Associated With Digoxin in Contemporary Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Findings From the TREAT-AF Study"

Is this what you were looking for?

Thank you so much Mark x

Hi Abihel,

I saw an article in "What Doctors Don't Tell You" (Page 15, Feb 2015 edition) about Digoxin (marketed as Lanoxin). It apparently increased the risk of death by 71% in a trial of nearly 15,000 people with AF, double the rate of those on other drugs. the reference given is: CircArrhythmElectrophysiol,2014;doi:10.1161/CIRCEP.114.002292

I hope that is some use to you.

Best wishes,

Tony.

Further to my recent reply, you may be able to find more information about that trial on

jafib.com/ and search for the particular reference I quoted.

Here again! I should have done all this before my first reply, sorry!

On the jafib site I found the following quote:

Digoxin should not be used to treat patients with paroxysmal AF.

Wow! Thanks for raising this point and posting the important and scary stuff! I have, just today, come off digoxin, having been put on it 3 weeks ago. With the Bisoprolol I am already on, I began to feel so much worse,,,nauseous, worn out, breathless, etc. Having today had a second, successful, cardioversion, I asked to come off it. I will never take it again.

What is going on with the consultanys that continue to prescribe digoxin? Do they not read these reports or even the directions that come with the tablets?

I have been on Digoxin for six months. Was put on it by local hospital to lower heart rate which it did. I can't take betablockers due to wheezing.

I am taking 10mg Bisoprolol just been doubled from 5mg I do get wheezing as well but they said they are the best thing for me...not so sure myself. If this higher dose does not get my heart rate down they want me to take Digoxin as well! I amon the waiting list for a an ablation. x

I am take bisoprolol (10mg ) plus (62.5 micro gm digoxin).

I have felt a bit anxious about taking digoxin for some time now,

I am going to stop taking it and check if AF and SVC get worse.

Will report back here with the result.

Thank you all for this, I knew one of my drug regime was making things worse, breathlessness and heavier clunky heartbeats, particularly at night. After reading all this amazing [& scary !] information, I really do not want to take any more Digoxin. Is it safe to just stop it, I have been taking it now for two years,
